00:00President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the turnover of 8 housing projects

00:05under the Yolanda Permanent Housing Program.

00:08This is Kenneth Paciente's story.

00:13We were so worried.

00:15We thought that we won't be able to live anymore.

00:19Josefina's experience of the Super Typhoon Yolanda in 2013 is still painful.

00:26The storm didn't stop the challenge that she was facing.

00:30After her house and property were destroyed,

00:33life became difficult for her and her family.

00:36Josefina is just one of thousands of people who experienced the Yolanda Hurricane.

00:40To help them recover,

00:43President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the turnover of 8 housing projects

00:49under the Yolanda Permanent Housing Program by the National Housing Authority.

00:54He distributed the symbolic key that reflects the 3,570 housing units

01:00in the 8 projects that were built in Leyte, Samar, and Maguing in Biliran.

01:04According to the President,

01:05this is a way for the government to give back to the victims of the storm.

01:09In the new Philippines,

01:11we hope that you will be successful.

01:15Not only for yourselves,

01:17but also for the future of our future generations.

01:23Let us all...

01:28Let us all take care of these houses

01:32so that they can serve as a foundation for a stronger future.

01:40The Executive Board also promised that the government's efforts

01:44will build disaster-resilient houses

01:48to prepare for the stronger calamities that will follow climate change.

01:53At the same time,

01:54the government also promised to strengthen flood mitigation projects.

01:59There is a flood mitigation project here in Leyte.

02:02This is the Leyte Tide Embankment Project

02:06that will provide protection against strong waves

02:10to the communities near the sea.

02:13More than half of the projects were completed.

02:18I hope that in the near future,

02:21this will also be completed by the DPWH,

02:24or the Department of Public Works and Highways.

02:27Throughout the country,

02:28we pay attention to ensuring that all flood control projects

02:34are properly designed

02:37so that they can cope with frequent rains and floods.

02:42The area of each housing unit is estimated to be 22 square meters

02:45to 28.60 square meters.

02:49They will also not pay for amortization.

02:52The NHA also assured that these housing projects

02:55will be built in safe areas.

02:57The President also promised that the government is currently

03:00supporting the first housing projects

03:02so that they can be owned by beneficiaries.

03:05The construction of these houses is substandard.

03:09There is a shortage of electricity, water, and roads.

03:13It is very far, so it was not used much.

03:17But what we did is,

03:20we gave a little more funds

03:23so that the NHAs that were built first,

03:27which were technically substandard,

03:30can now be used.
