00:00The Department of Social Welfare and Development continues to provide psychosocial support to families in evacuation centers
00:07who are affected by the ongoing unrest of Candlaon Volcano in Negros Occidental.

00:20Aside from providing essential assistance and temporary shelter,
00:23the Department of Social Welfare and Development, or DSWD, emphasizes the importance of psychosocial activities
00:30in supporting the mental and emotional well-being of thousands of internally displaced persons.
00:36As part of this initiative, child-friendly spaces have been set up in evacuation centers
00:41where children participate in activities such as storytelling, film screenings, and art therapy,
00:47including drawing and poster-making sessions.
00:49John Christopher Fatalsana, Social Welfare Officer 2 of the DSWD Region 6 Disaster Response Management Division,
00:57highlighted the significance of these programs in helping evacuees process their traumatic experiences
01:03and fostering a sense of social connection.
01:19The situation is good, but we try to make them feel at home within the camp.
01:29As classes resume, the DSWD also supports the continuity of children's education
01:34by facilitating temporary learning sessions within evacuation centers as an alternative to regular school activities.
01:41For parents, various community activities help them adapt to their current situation.
01:46These include bread-baking workshops conducted by the faculty of La Castellana High School,
01:51regular Zumba dance sessions led by the Municipal and City Social Welfare Officers,
01:56parenting dialogue sessions, and even basketball games for women within the camps.
02:02Through the combined efforts of the government and the private sector in conducting psychosocial activities,
02:08evacuees are given hope and resilience to rebuild their lives,
02:12holding on to the dream of returning to their own homes.
