As Joe Biden relinquishes the U.S. presidency, Denmark's Prime Minister has summoned the country's business leaders to a meeting.

It’s all to do with Donald Trump's threats to take control of Greenland. Mette Frederiksen told the U.S. President-elect in a phonecall that it was up to Greenland to decide its future.

Evangelo Sipsas reports from Greenland's capital - Nuuk.

00:00Greenland has been on the spotlight especially after the remarks of Donald Trump and it's been
00:05pretty much the number one discussion around the world of what's going to happen once Donald Trump
00:09takes in office and that's why the Prime Minister Frederiksen from Denmark summoned all the top
00:15business people of the country to be able to discuss about the future of this island,
00:20the largest island in the world. Now in that meeting it was clear their message what it was
00:26and that message was transferred to Donald Trump when the Prime Minister spoke with the President
00:31Elect and she said clearly that the future of this island is only to be determined by the people
00:38living here, the Greenlandic people and the leaders of this island and this is the only way
00:45that they can determine and keep their autonomy if they're the only ones who decides their future.
00:50That was the message towards Donald Trump and that has also been echoed by the people here in
00:55the capital of Nuuk but also the leaders as well of the island. Now it is coming at a time of
01:02great tension, of great a lot of discussion because Greenland now is in the
01:07arctic circle, it is in the arctic, the area that has been a lot on the topic of Donald Trump,
01:14one because of the natural resources that it holds but also how it's becoming a very
01:18geopolitical game among the superpowers because of the trade, because of security.
01:25So all these have been put on the table and that's why Greenland right now is one of the
01:29largest discussions especially from east to west. Now this also shows from the Prime Minister
01:36of Denmark sitting down with those business people how now the importance is shifting
01:41more towards Greenland, how they want to provide more economic support but also a better
01:45political future when it comes to the island to work with the leaders of the island and the people
01:50to take their own decisions but support them in that, give them more political, a better
01:55political future but provide more economy to the country. Now the Prime Minister of Denmark
02:01has also mentioned that there has been many years that they haven't really focused a lot
02:05on the security and now wants to put greater influence into that to support them when it
02:11comes to their national security and just a reminder here that it's coming at a very rising
02:16tension times because of this Arctic, the Arctic ways, the trade routes that have been
02:23now going to be established because of climate change as well but the one thing from this
02:26message that is very clear is that the Prime Minister said that the future of the people
02:31living on this island is only going to be determined by them and no one else.
