00:00Loveable probably isn't the word you'd use to describe Squid Game, but behind-the-scenes
00:05footage shows how much fun the cast had.
00:08Lee Byung-hun has been applying his quiet intensity to the frontman's moves for two
00:12seasons now, but several of the games that pop up during Season 2 of Squid Game had him
00:17worried that he might not be up to the task.
00:19During a behind-the-scenes look into the second season, Byung-hun admitted he's right-handed,
00:24although the character is left-handed.
00:27Because he had to use his non-dominant hand, Byung-hun was concerned that he'd end up messing
00:31up over and over again.
00:33His humbleness in the footage is very endearing, especially because he seems to have nailed
00:37every single take without too much difficulty.
00:40As it turns out, that was a problem.
00:42He was supposed to mess up most of his throws, but he was so good, he kept getting it right.
00:47In the same vein, the Jegi Challenge, a game like hacky sack that involves the player keeping
00:56a pom-pom in the air with just their feet, led to plenty of behind-the-scenes chaos.
01:01In the show, it's a tense portion of the five-minute-long six-person race that's part of the Pentathlon
01:06Challenge, but behind the scenes, it looks like every single person on the set had a
01:10chance to have fun by kicking the tassels around.
01:13It turns out that this specific challenge presented a problem for series creator Hwan
01:17Dong-hyuk.
01:18He originally set the time limit for the challenge at 10 minutes, but the actors were all so
01:22good at it, he had to rewrite the challenge to cut the time limit in half.
01:31Another standout scene from those games has Dae-ho play a rapid-fire game of gong-gi,
01:36his hands moving with lightning-fast precision.
01:41While his game is impressive, there's a secret to the scene that's not immediately obvious.
01:46In the show, Dae-ho says he already knows the game because his sister taught him how
01:49to play.
01:50Director Kang Han-ul, however, had a rockier road ahead of him on set.
01:54He told Netflix,
01:55"...I practiced hard, learning some new tricks.
01:57I was starting to get the hang of it, but the director invited an expert."
02:01So those close-up shots actually show the hands of the expert, not Han-ul.
02:05And Han-ul wasn't the only one who struggled to nail the games.
02:08Jo Yu-ri's Kim Joon-hee provides a big reaction to nailing a toss in the dak-gi game during
02:13Six Legs due to the fact that she had been having a hard time nailing the shot while
02:17filming the scene.
02:18While Squid Game itself is no place to find friendship, it's clear that the cast had fun
02:32and found a sense of camaraderie.
02:34It turns out that at least two principal actors formed a particularly close bond while working
02:38together.
02:39Lee Yoo-mi and Jung Ho-yoon said they instantly became friends.
02:43Lee said in an interview,
02:44"...We're the same age and we share similar interests, so we got along really well.
02:48When we were filming, we kept sharing Ji-young and Sae-byeok's feelings.
02:52There was no way we wouldn't grow close."
02:53Jung confessed to feeling inadequate as an actress and looked to Lee for inspiration.
02:58The pair also confessed that they were both genuinely crying in the scene where Ji-young
03:01sacrifices herself in the marble game so Sae-byeok can keep going.
03:05Now that's heartwarming.
03:07"...Thank you for playing with me."
03:12From the sounds of it, nearly everyone had a great time on set.
03:16Although the challenges themselves were often hard work, the actors all said that the atmosphere
03:20on the show's set was great, and that being there was a big thrill in and of itself.
03:24Speaking about Season 1, host Song Tae told Netflix K-Content,
03:28"...Everyone wanted to be on set, even if they didn't have scenes to film.
03:31I went, too."
03:32Anna Palm Tripathi also said in a behind-the-scenes interview that the cast and crew felt
03:37like family.
03:38Squid Game may be brutal, but behind the scenes, it looks like a whole lot of fun.
