00:00And later on tonight, we will see the first-team AP all-pro quarterback in action.
00:09That is Lamar Jackson.
00:11A very important piece of news came out yesterday that Lamar was named first-team all-pro.
00:20You – I don't know if you can go back and find someone who was named first-team
00:24all-pro at the quarterback position and did not win MVP.
00:27Long time.
00:28Thirty first-place votes to Lamar, 18 to Josh Allen, two of them went to Joe Burrow.
00:36So for what we do, before we even dive into deserving or not, Josh Allen closed as the
00:43favorite to win league MVP.
00:45When you see this news, Joe, are you now expecting, like many, that this means Lamar will be the
00:52winning ticket?
00:53I mean, it looks that way, but again, I still believe that it's Josh Allen.
00:58I would still take a shot and say Josh Allen, even though he didn't play, in terms of
01:03the loss last week against New England, right, he started and then got pulled for Trubisky
01:08in terms of that matchup.
01:10I still think it would be Josh Allen because of the body of work in big matchups, led his
01:14team to 12, 13 victories this year, and again, I think he's deserving.
01:19I really believe he is deserving.
01:21I wouldn't give it to Lamar Jackson with the five losses.
01:24I just wouldn't.
01:25And you do look at it, whereas if either one of these guys does get the MVP, I don't think
01:28anybody's going to be so upset.
01:29That's ridiculous.
01:30I can't believe it happened, but different people have different ideas of what the MVP
01:34is, and I keep saying, like, maybe Lamar Jackson is the better quarterback and having the better
01:38structural season for him in that offense, but if you take Lamar off that offense, I
01:42truly believe they're still functional at this point.
01:44I think if you take Josh off of the Buffalo Bills, I don't think they're a functional
01:48football team.
01:49So, for me, he's an MVP in that respect.
01:51The better season?
01:52It's definitely Lamar Jackson, though.
01:54Yeah, I think what's fascinating is the fact that Lamar was named first-team All-Pro immediately
02:02removed the odds, and books have not reposted it.
02:06They are not interested, because some books can be opportunistic, right?
02:12And I'm sure they wouldn't mind, you know what we'll do, let's hang them at both a minus
02:16115.
02:17But what I think would happen is, if they did say, hey, we'll hang at minus 115 each,
02:23you know how the VIG is, right?
02:25You would just get Lamar, Lamar, Lamar, Lamar, until they had to shoot Lamar to a minus 300,
02:31400 type of favorite, and then anybody who's holding the plus Lamar tickets would go, great.
02:37Plus Josh, 250, 3-1, 350, and now we're clean and we wipe our hands from it.
02:43It is very clear that this is a two-man race, it probably always was, but it lets people
02:47know that Joe Burrow is not going to shock and surprise, it lets people know that, you
02:51know, there weren't many votes to the first-place quarterbacks, we've talked about how often
02:55that was the case, you know, Pat Mahomes or Jared Goff on the NFC side of things are not
03:00going to creep into this.
03:02But it's a very tricky thing, because Lamar winning, you said Lamar is very deserving
03:08of the award.
03:11My issue is, that wasn't true last season.
03:15I know the game we're playing, right?
03:17I kind of, oh, I was, to a degree, if you would, embracing how the award was working.
03:23And now we're, again, we're, ah, no, no, no, it works this way.
03:27It gets very odd.
03:29So I now am expecting Lamar to win league MVP.
03:33In fact, now it would be a little surprising if he didn't win league MVP.
03:38How different could the base of voters be for the AP poll and the NFL?
03:44The question then becomes, does it at all impact Buffalo?
03:49I don't think it means a darn thing.
03:53Been there, done that, Lamar, it's whatever.
03:56If you're the Bills, they see everything.
03:59They gave an MVP chain to Josh Allen, right, for Christmas.
04:02We heard that.
04:03You know, there was a lot of chatter around it, Donnie.
04:07Do you think at all this is something that is going to be a motivator, a distractor for
04:13the Bills?
04:14Neither.
04:15I don't think it is, because this is a team game.
04:16And the concept, if you ask Josh Allen, you ask Lamar Jackson right now, MVP or a Super
04:21Bowl?
04:22Now, you might say it's an unfair question, because Lamar's run a couple.
04:24Josh hasn't yet, and he wants to get his first one.
04:26We get that.
04:27But they go hand in hand.
04:28You want to win the MVP and a Super Bowl.
04:29But if you had to give up one of those awards, I'm pretty sure that the quarterbacks would
04:33give up the MVP and say, hey, we won a Super Bowl.
04:35That's the end all be all at this point.
04:37I don't think it's a motivating factor, because when you're in the playoffs, man, your motivation
04:40is that really good football team on the opposite side of you that you want to be ready for.
04:44Like, I don't imagine where it's, you know, maybe try to throw Joe four touchdown passes
04:48in this first game against the Denver Broncos to show, oh, I should have been the starting
04:51quarterback here who won the AP award and also the MVP.
04:54I don't think he gets that.
04:55No, I agree with that.
04:56I think their motivation is beating Baltimore that you lost to 35 to 10 earlier in the year.
05:01You got smacked around in terms of Baltimore, and Josh Allen had one of his worst games
05:06in terms of that matchup.
05:07And obviously, the matchup, if they meet with the Kansas City Chiefs that he could beat
05:11in the regular season, but he can't beat them in the playoffs.
05:14That's your motivation, right?
05:16You get through that gauntlet, supposedly, I think Josh Allen will be just fine.
05:20He might be a little disappointed that he doesn't win the MVP.
05:23But at the end of the day, if he gets through Lamar or potentially Pat Mahomes in an AFC
05:28championship type of setting, I think that, you know, that rectifies everything.
