The 23-year-old hiker at the centre of the Snowy Mountains search and rescue operation has been released from hospital. Hadi Nazari is now free to head home to Melbourne as more details emerge about the 13 days he spent in Kosciuszko National Park.

00:00When Hardy Nazari was rescued on Wednesday, his friends said he looked fit and healthy,
00:07but almost two weeks lost in the bush still took their toll. Hardy spent the past two
00:11nights here at Cooma Hospital being treated for dehydration.
00:16He's now been discharged and left hospital without speaking to media, although he's previously
00:21issued a statement thanking everyone involved in the search for him. A clearer picture is
00:26now emerging of how Hardy's time in Kosciuszko National Park played out.
00:30He was last seen by his friends descending the Hanel Spur Trail at Gee High on Boxing
00:35Day. On New Year's Eve, search teams found rubbish, hiking poles and Hardy's footprint
00:39near Kosciuszko Creek.
00:41The next clue came on January 5, when emergency crews discovered a lighter, camera and remnants
00:47of a campfire near Gee High River. At some point he stopped at Opera House Hut, where
00:52he found a couple of muesli bars. He eventually made his way to Carotha's Saddle, where he
00:57was found by passing hikers on Wednesday.
01:00So it's been quite the journey and no doubt his family is eager to reunite with him.
