00:00The implementation of the electricity tariff for the public transportation sector needs to be structured carefully and wisely to ensure that there is a win-win situation between the employer and the user, said Wan Agil Wan Hassan, the founder of the MyMobilityDivision transportation think tank.
00:18He said the suggestion could reduce the operating costs of the employer and the savings could be diverted towards improving public transportation services.
00:29However, he said the government needs to create a stronger investment mechanism so that the flow of costs saved by the employer can be monitored and truly beneficial to the user.
00:42Meanwhile, the President of the Malaysian Public Transportation Users' Association, Adit Jol, urged the government to speed up the implementation of the electricity tariff because it is now able to deal with the problem of increasing passenger traffic, which may occur due to an increase in operating costs.
01:00Subsequently, the Minister of Transportation, Lok Siu Fok, proposed a special electricity tariff for the public transportation sector to reduce the burden of employees who are now burdened due to the same tariff charge as conventional business companies.
01:15He said the current tariff charge is high, where employers such as mass transit, light and commercial transit spend 30-35% of their operating costs on electricity, while heavy Malay trains use 35% of the operating costs of the existing tariff system.
