00:00Former State Attorney Abu Talib Osman defended the request for pardon issued by the State Attorney's Office last Saturday by stating that it was intended to avoid the matter being challenged in court.
00:17He said that the State Attorney's Office was entitled to affirm that all petitions for pardon related to the crimes committed in Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya were submitted to the State Attorney's Office.
00:31He referred to Article 42 of Section 9 requiring the Pardon Institute to consider the written opinion delivered by the State Attorney before giving his advice to the Supreme Court regarding a petition for pardon.
00:48Abu Talib added that under the Institute, the Supreme Court, when implementing the prerogative right of the poor man, was subject to action on the advice of the Pardon Institute, and not according to the course and wishes.
01:04The statement of the Institute was made in the midst of continued speculation regarding the petition that was said to be issued by former President Agung Al Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, who allegedly allowed Najib Razak to spend the rest of his prison time under house arrest.
