Switzerland is a hub for brain research. FinalSpark, a company based near Lake Geneva, is working in the new field of bio-computing, also known as wetware.

Bio-computing uses biologically derived materials to perform digital computations. FinalSpark is growing tiny organoids - tiny balls of neurons, and communicating with them using electrodes.

00:00Switzerland is a hub for brain research, and here, near Lake Geneva, is the HQ of FinalSpark,
00:11a company working in the new field of biocomputing, also known as wetware.
00:16We started by doing artificial intelligence the standard way, neural networks, we created
00:22programs that wrote programs and it was really exciting, but each time we added a new server,
00:28we had to add a new air conditioning, so it was really complicated and expensive, and
00:31we said that's not the way to go.
00:34And so one day we said, okay, let's try to use human neurons.
