00:00Rescue missions are currently ongoing. Is there a risk of further aftershocks during this time?
00:07We know that some have already been reported.
00:11Yes, unfortunately there will be for weeks and even months to come.
00:15Hopefully they will all be smaller than the main event, the main shock which we've already had
00:22and their size will continue to decline over time.
00:26There is a risk that this earthquake could yet trigger another substantial event on an adjacent fault
00:33which has had an increase in the stress load on it as a result of the recent event.
00:39It was that kind of scenario that took place in Turkey nearly two years ago
00:45where one very big earthquake was followed in quick succession by one of similar size in an adjacent area.
00:53But that scenario is relatively rare.
00:56It's more likely that they'll continue to be aftershocks.
00:59Some of these could be damaging in their own right.
01:02They'll all be very worrying to the people in that area
01:05but hopefully they won't be anything like the scale of this original event.
