00:00And for our Buenamanong Pasyal this year,
00:04we're going to America
00:06to look for the biggest tropical jungle there.
00:11Come on, let's go!
00:12Our destination, the most important biodiversity area in America,
00:17is the Everglades.
00:19The Everglades is a tropical wetland in Southern Florida.
00:22It's alive because of the different weather systems in Florida
00:25resulting in a unique combination of geography, geology, and weather patterns.
00:31The climate there is subtropical,
00:33which means it's always hot and wet,
00:36just right for marshlands.
00:40The Everglades is the largest subtropical jungle in North America.
00:44Wow!
00:46Underneath the marshland is limestone,
00:49a type of water-bearing rock that's like an aquifer,
00:53or a layer of rock that's carried by water.
00:56When I say Florida, I immediately think of water.
00:59This is a peninsula that's surrounded by water on three sides,
01:03but it's also always flooded,
01:05so the water here is always wet from the rain.
01:08In the south, there's the Kissimmee River,
01:11a wide floodplain that's like a gigantic water drainage system
01:15that brings water to the Atlantic Ocean.
01:19Because of the unique environment and climate,
01:21many people want to live here.
01:23Great tigress, herons, white ibis, and wood storks.
01:30Underneath the marshland is full of snakes,
01:33manatees, and all kinds of fish,
01:36alligators, and crocodiles.
01:38Trivia first, true or false?
01:40The Everglades is the only place in the world
01:43where there are alligators and crocodiles.
01:46The answer is true.
01:48Here, there are both alligators and crocodiles.
01:51Wait a minute, what's the difference?
01:54Alligators are young in freshwater,
01:56but crocodiles can adapt to freshwater.
02:01Aside from this, the ecosystems in the Everglades
02:04are very close to the concentrations of rare and endangered species in America.
02:09For example, the Florida panther,
02:11West Indian manatee,
02:13and wood stork.
02:15It's hard to find them in the Everglades.
