00:00Isn't it true that sleeping is more important than eating?
00:04That's right!
00:05There's a mental and physical deterioration when you're awake for over 16 hours.
00:10Your brain can't memorize anymore.
00:12And if you're awake for 3 days, you'll hallucinate or imagine anything.
00:18That's why we should sleep so that our brain can rest.
00:22But did you know that even if we sleep, our brain is still awake?
00:27I'm an autopilot so that I can adjust my memories, muscles, and organs.
00:31And release my hormones.
00:33There are 4 stages and 2 types of sleep.
00:36REM or Rapid Eye Movement.
00:38And NREM or Non-Rapid Eye Movement.
00:425% of sleep is stage 1.
00:45This is the stage where you're already sleepy.
00:4745% of sleep is stage 2.
00:50Known as Light NREM Sleep.
00:53This is when our body slows down.
00:55Our body temperature slows down, our breathing and heart rate slows down,
01:00and long-term memories are stored in our brain.
01:03Stage 3 is Deep NREM Sleep.
01:06This is at 25%.
01:08This is when our body is in recovery mode and our body and brain slows down.
01:14Stage 4 is REM Sleep.
01:16This is the last 25% of sleep and this is when we're dreaming.
01:20During REM Sleep, the levels of brain activity are also awakened.
01:24Our breathing and heart rate.
01:26REM Sleep occurs in the second half of our sleep.
01:30If we don't sleep enough, it has a negative impact.
01:34It's harder to memorize.
01:36You get mood swings.
01:38And it has a negative effect on the immune and cardiovascular system.
01:43I have a question for you.
01:45How many percent of high schoolers don't have 8 to 10 hours of sleep?
01:50A. 23%
01:53B. 55%
01:56Or C. 72%
01:59The answer is C. 72%.
02:02And that number is a bit alarming.
02:05Kids, don't sleep too much, okay?
02:08It's relaxing to sleep.
02:10But aside from that, it's also exciting to wait for our dreams.
02:15Speaking of dreams, we dream 4 to 6 times.
02:19But 95% of our dreams are forgotten when we wake up.
02:24And did you know that 75% of us dream of colors?
02:29But when there were no color TVs, it was only 15%.
02:33Esha, why do we sometimes have dreams that are so weird?
02:37Because while we sleep, the front part of the brain that controls our senses is shut down.
02:43Because of that, different images, stories, and ideas mix in our brain while we're dreaming.
02:50That's why it's weird.
02:51But the dream stage helps our problem-solving skills because we see things in a different way.
03:13Thank you for watching!
