00:00Are you looking to improve your diet this new year? Well, you won't be alone. Many across
00:08Bristol and the West Country are considering their diet, with many choosing to either go
00:14vegetarian or vegan.
00:17So we've seen a huge surge, a huge, and even just around the UK, loads of vegan businesses
00:22popping up, loads of independents are like implementing new vegan options. So for us,
00:26it's been a huge, beautiful whirlwind of, oh wow, it's really blossoming. We have a
00:31tag of humane food rather than vegan food. We decided to kind of have this entire concept
00:35just to have the whole hearted, just really good comfort food, whole hearted, lovely Sunday
00:40roast, just everything that everyone genuinely wants. If a slaughterhouse had glass windows,
00:45as John Lennon once put it, life would be very different. I mean, I come from an Irish
00:49background, you know, dairy, meat and everything is very heavily implemented. So for me to
00:53kind of like step away from it, I mean, if I can do it, I mean, any Joe soap can.
00:58As people increasingly prioritise their health and wellbeing, the demand for nutrient-rich
01:04plant-based foods has surged. Veganism is now seen as a holistic approach to better
01:10health, with studies highlighting its potential to lower the risks of heart disease, diabetes
01:16and obesity. This shift is evident in Bristol's bustling markets, where local vendors showcase
01:22everything from freshly prepared vegan meals to organic plant-based staples. The city's
01:29vegan restaurants and cafes have also expanded, offering innovative menus that cater to diverse
01:35palates. Establishments like Kucha Mezi Bar and Eden Cafe serve up colourful health-focused
01:42dishes to prove plant-based eating can be both nourishing and indulgent. So as it's
01:48going to be January, I decided to pop to one of these many places in Bristol that do
01:53a lot of vegan options. So I popped to the Colombian Coffee & Co, which is just at the
01:59very bottom of Cotton Hill by White Ladies Road. And I picked myself up a vegan slice
02:05of coffee and walnut cake. So I'm going to give this a try now. Apparently it's absolutely
02:10delicious and it is one of their specialities. So let us give it a go.
02:18Mmm. That is delicious.
02:24In 2025, veganism in Bristol has become more than just a dietary trend. It's now a central
02:31part of the city's vibrant and progressive culture. Known for its eco-conscious ethos,
02:37Bristol continues to lead the charge in plant-based living, offering a thriving
02:42scene for those seeking healthier and more sustainable eating habits.
02:47Now I'm going to tuck into the rest of my coffee and walnut cake and enjoy finding
02:52more of these exciting vegan cafes and restaurants around the city. Cheers.
