00:00We always need more green spaces, less high rises. We don't want to turn into Manhattan
00:07in the 1920s or Dubai presently.
00:14Bristol is truly a very green city with over 400 parks and green spaces for locals to go
00:20and enjoy nature, take a walk, cycle and relax or have a picnic. Some of the largest parks
00:27in the city include Brandon Hill, Durden Downs, Castle Park and Queen's Square.
00:34I think Bristol is one of two cities that I've been in, namely Edinburgh and Bristol
00:42itself which is blessed with more green spaces than other towns that I've lived in.
00:51Well I've just nearly went over Redland Green to get home which is out in Kingstown because
00:57I took the bus to the top of the White Lady. But I came down this way and went to the cook
01:02shop instead and thought I saw something nice for the kitchen. So, yeah, the green spaces,
01:09I wish the whole world was green, there were less of us, there were too many. The population
01:13is enormous.
01:17Bristol City Council have stressed the importance of supporting natural habitats. Bristol declared
01:23an ecological emergency in 2020 in response to the alarming decline in many UK wildlife
01:30populations. A one-city ecological emergency strategy was produced with four goals. Goal
01:37one was to manage 30% of land in Bristol for the benefit of wildlife. Goal two was to reduce
01:44the use of pesticides in Bristol by at least 50%. Goal three was for all waterways to have
01:51excellent water quality which supports healthy wildlife. And goal four was to reduce consumption
01:58of products that undermines the health of wildlife and ecosystems around the world.
02:04I don't think we should build houses on any green spaces such as the Downs in Bristol.
02:14We need wilderness for our own mental well-being really. Just to get through to anybody. We
02:22think anything able to organise anything includes society. We need more green spaces, less people.
02:32And well, I live in a flat, but I think the only answer is high-rise flats, I think. You
02:38have to save one's space on wilderness really.
02:42I think Bristol as a city is quite good for green spaces, I think, compared to other cities.
02:47But I think there can always be more done.
02:51What kind of spaces do you enjoy hanging out in Bristol?
02:54I love College Green. I love the Clifton Downs. Yeah, all spaces like that are really nice.
