On this episode of Good Bites Takeout, host Alex Melki orders in from a new spot in Montreal that specializes in making the most amazing variety of cinnamon buns in the city.

Co-owners and longtime friends Angela Houzouris and Melina Mammas couldn’t find the cinnamon buns they craved, so they decided to reinvent them instead.

00:00Welcome to Good Bites Takeout. This is the show where I make the most of the fact that we can't go out to eat, so instead, I order in.
00:05I'm Alex, and today I have a very sweet treat for you.
00:11Today is the day that I found out there are more types of flavors of cinnamon bun other than just original.
00:16See, my whole life, that's what I thought it was, but there's a new place in Montreal called Bon Appétit.
00:21Three words. Dunkaroos Cinnamon Bun. They make that and a whole lot more.
00:26You're gonna freak out. Let's get to the order.
00:30The Dunkabun. A Dunkaroo bun layered with graham crackers and their signature Dunkaroo-inspired icing.
00:47The Fudge and Bon. A chocolate bun layered with Oreos topped with their signature frosting and Oreo crumbs.
00:53The Velvet and Awake. A red velvet bun topped with a cream cheese frosting, chocolate drizzle, and a chunk of white chocolate.
01:00The Bunny Bun. A carrot cake bun topped with cream cheese flavored icing, drizzled caramel, and walnut crumbs with a dropper filled with caramel.
01:09The Love You Berry Much. A strawberry rhubarb infused bun topped with a berry frosting and shaved white chocolate.
01:16And the OG Cinnamon. Cinnamon, cream cheese frosting, that's it.
01:20Alright, I'm gonna kick things off with the Dunkabun. This is what caught my eye in the first place.
01:24Can we just talk about how adorable this is? Look at that. Tiny little teddy bear sticking out the top.
01:34Oh my god. This tastes like nostalgia. Get me a Tamagotchi and let's go see Space Jam because that's what this tastes like.
01:40I have no other words. Mm-hmm, mm-hmm, mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Nailed it. Dunkaroos. It's literally Dunkaroos.
01:47Next up we have the Fudge and Bone. Now look, I'm basic when it comes to ice cream and desserts and flavors.
01:53And when you put Oreo on something, I'll eat it.
01:57I was expecting the chocolate inside. The Oreo was perfect. Anybody that thinks Oreo is played out, you need to try this. Okay?
02:04This is gonna save Oreo.
02:05I forgot to mention how amazing all of these smell. We're at the red velvet now.
02:09And I'm gonna cut right through this white chocolate at the top there. Look at that. That's a little not safe for work right there.
02:18Mm. The thing about red velvet is it needs to mix beautifully with the cream cheese topping.
02:23And it does pull out the red carpet for the red velvet. It is that good.
02:28This is the bunny bun. Okay, I don't know how I feel about carrot cake in a cinnamon bun. Doesn't make sense to me.
02:33But you have this cute little heart-shaped receptacle that contains some caramel.
02:41Oh.
02:42Oh.
02:45Okay, this is a cake. I'm gonna be honest with you. This is a cake in the shape of a cinnamon bun. But it's so good.
02:51Moving on to the Love You Very Much, which I gotta say is maybe the prettiest of the options that they have.
02:58Strawberry robot.
03:02Mm. Mm. Oh my god.
03:04I don't know what this is, but this is one of the best things I've ever tasted.
03:08It's like a jam paste. Listen, Bon Appetit, if you're watching this right now, please just mail me a gallon of it.
03:14And I'm gonna end things off here with the OG cinnamon. The one you know and love. It's the one you've had a million times.
03:18The only one I thought existed up until today. It's pretty good. It's pretty good.
03:22Even if you want to play it safe, you can't lose.
03:24Now that I'm done with the buns, let's talk to the owners and find out how they reinvented cinnamon buns in 2021.
03:30What's the backstory here? First of all, are you guys friends? Did you guys know each other beforehand? Are you family? What's going on?
03:36We met a long time ago at Saturday school, actually. So we've been friends since like childhood.
03:40And then we worked together in restaurants. So we always like, we're always connected throughout our whole lives.
03:45And then how did this come about?
03:47Basically, we both have a love for cooking and baking.
03:50And I went to New York for a month in October to visit my sisters.
03:54And I was like, I really want like a cinnamon bun. But like, I want an Oreo cinnamon bun.
04:01So then I was looking up recipes. Oh, where can I find an Oreo cinnamon bun?
04:04And I'm like, hey, let's just make it. So obviously I made it. I was like, this is delicious.
04:08Where can I find this in Montreal? Nowhere.
04:11It doesn't exist.
04:12We infuse our cinnamon buns with different flavors, with different toppings. So it's making it more fun.
04:17If people want to order your buns right now, how do they do that?
04:21For now, it's Instagram and Facebook and email. But slowly, slowly, a website definitely is going to come through.
