Bears interim coach Thomas Brown comments on why he has decided to play starters, including Caleb Williams, in a meaningless season ender at Green Bay.

00:00Yeah, so we say nothing at stake, so there's a game that's going to be played.
00:09So at stake as far as competing and winning a football game, which I think is different
00:13from maybe the outside world's perspective, there's always an opportunity at stake to
00:17go compete and be at your best.
00:19So I wouldn't agree with you as far as nothing at stake.
00:21Obviously, we're not going to the playoffs, I guess that's more of your thought process
00:25behind it.
00:26But as far as Caleb goes, as far as dialogue about him not playing, that's never come up
00:32or been talked about at all.
00:34Obviously, part of the overall evolution of him being at his best to try to continue to
00:40find ways to help him continue to grow and be at his best week in and week out, and part
00:43of it is going to be able to learn to protect himself and also be better around him from
00:48a protection standpoint, but there was no thought into that for myself or communication
00:55with Ryan because there's an opportunity that's not guaranteed, and I take it very
01:01seriously because opportunities aren't guaranteed, and one thing I hate more than anything is
01:06wasted time.
01:07Because when time is gone, you don't get it back.
01:08I mean, shared accountability, I think obviously when people just see Saks, they just think
01:11about the offensive line in general, which is also just a misunderstanding of how football
01:16works and not watching football games.
01:18I obviously talked to him this morning in particular, like I do many mornings, about
01:23how to improve, how to become better, and the understanding of the rhythm and timing
01:27in the passing game, how to have more accountability from a pre-snap standpoint of diagnosing potential
01:33issues, pressures, and also kind of being able to anticipate some stuff from a post-snap
01:36standpoint, but we've got to do a better job of protecting him as well at times, but also
01:40him being able to understand how to get through progression a little bit quicker.
