00:00I thought they did what they've done to a lot of teams this season, played counter-attack
00:24football, played it very well by the way, that's not a slight on them at all, stayed
00:31organised, played forward quickly, not having loads of passes round the back and asked questions
00:35and scored, well one good goal, poor from us but the second goal is a fast goal from
00:40us, you know you can't give away goals, particularly not against a side who are in that kind of
00:45form and renowned this season particularly for being very organised and hard to break
00:50down.
00:51Were you disappointed with the ease with which they were able to enact their game today?
00:55I was disappointed simply because the first half our players did the opposite of what
00:58we told them, which is very frustrating as a manager, trust me, and as team coaches and
01:03I've told them that because we analysed it, we looked at the things that we wanted to
01:06do and didn't offer anything that we expected for us to deliver and got done with a poor
01:14goal from us defensively, which is unusual lately I will say that, and they did the basics
01:19better than us in the first half, second half we acted a bit better and we asked a
01:22few more questions, didn't really open them up, but by then they're 2-0 up after a soft
01:28goal and they've shown this season they're hard to open up when they're in front and
01:32they've got players who are on form, I thought the centre forward Chris Wood who obviously
01:35I know well, I thought he was excellent and he was excellent without having too many touches
01:38of the ball, but his commitment to it, his work ethic, his desire and he gets himself
01:43another goal.
01:44What was it you were hoping to see that you didn't see in that game?
01:48Playing quickly, playing with tempo, playing quickly, playing forwards quickly, stretching
01:51the back foot there, back four as it happened, I know it changed just four, well it looked
01:55like it changed, maybe they were going to four, it looked like it changed with an injury
01:59and asking as many questions by playing quickly and playing a tempo game and we didn't, we
02:04went completely opposite, played slowly, rolled it out the back, went pointlessly at times
02:10and then it was just too method bound, there wasn't enough questions and I mean the madness
02:15of football is that Illy does a brilliant bit of skill and if he slings one in the corner
02:20unfortunately he hits it over, but you never know, it's different then.
02:23Jared has half a shout for a penalty, I've seen it back, it's one of them weird ones,
02:27outside the box it gets given, inside the box it doesn't, we can never work out that,
02:32but you've got to get on the right side of the margins, we have done better recently
02:36and it's a really frustrating one without a shadow of a doubt today, particularly the
02:40first half.
02:41You've done so much and you've seen it this month to improve the side defensively, but
02:45you've had to sacrifice going forward as a result of that. In terms of answering the
02:50question of how you find a little bit more creativity going forward, a few more answers
02:53to the goalscoring issues, do you think the answers lie within the squad or would that
02:57be your priority if there is?
02:58They rely within the squad at this time, because we are what we are, I don't know about the
03:04January situation, I know you'll keep asking me but it depends on PSR, it's not about
03:08and there's no trouble with it, I'll make that clear once again, but we've still got
03:11rules and regulations like everyone will have this winter, the last one was lower, the one
03:16before that last Christmas was lower, this one probably will be lower for everyone, we
03:21don't know yet, but you want to answer it in-house, we've got players who I think can
03:26answer it and we step forward, we step forward, we step forward and then we step back to the
03:29beginning again and that's the most frustrating thing. I've spoken to the players about growing
03:34and when you grow from confidence, you grow from belief, I don't know, it's strange, we
03:38do and then we just go back to the start point again and then we have to rebuild it again
03:42and we've done that today and it's incredibly frustrating how we keep repeating that cycle.
03:47It's my job and my staff's job to continually look at ways of breaking it and that's what
03:51we continue to do.
03:52Interest on Dwight and Seamus, has there been an update on Seamus?
03:56Seamus, well we're waiting to see but it's early days yet, Dwight we're hopeful that
04:01it's settling down and not going to be too long.
04:05Hi Sean, good to see you again. Just on Liman and Diaz, he had a great start to the season
04:10despite the result today, how impressed are you that he's settled into Premier League football
04:14given the fact that within the last four years he was playing at Fulham, it's been fantastic
04:17to see his growth?
04:19Yeah, well he's done well since pre-season to learn about what it is and I thought he
04:24stuck at it yesterday, I thought Oral stuck at it as well, trying to ask questions, he
04:28put a couple of great crosses in, others he didn't, but these are players learning, developing
04:34and Illy's been the one who's taken to it the most.
04:37Like I say, if he scores again today, everyone's raving about him because I thought a lot of
04:40his performance was right, he wriggles out of trouble and looking to probe and ask questions
04:46and we want him to continue doing that.
04:48And then when you're looking at someone like Jesper Lindstrom, who's also come in this
04:50season as well, he's played in various positions across the front three, minus the striker,
04:55where do you see him settling into this team?
04:58Yeah, I mean it's similar to Illy, we think they can be used in different ways, we've
05:02tried to use them in different ways for any different situation, but I think a lot of
05:07his work will come from the wide areas all the way in the seat.
05:16Hi Sean, it's the last game of the calendar year, I know you don't measure football by
05:20calendar years, but in the new year do you see hope for optimism, I know the league table
05:24doesn't look particularly optimistic to you?
05:25Yeah, I'm always an optimist, I mean you have to be here, it's been a tough challenge ever
05:30since I walked in the door, so there's always continued optimism and I think we've shown
05:34signs of that recently, five or six games ago, everyone's saying this is almost, by
05:40the wording, suggesting we're going to get nothing out of the run, we have got something
05:44out of the run and probably more than some expected, not that myself, I said all runs
05:48are difficult in the Premier League, I made that clear, you have to play them all home
05:51in a way, blah, blah, blah, all the rest of it, I say with good reason and we've just
05:55played Nottingham Forest who at the beginning of the season weren't very fancy, look where
05:58they are, so that's why I say it's a tough division, everyone has a right to be in there
06:03and once they're in there everyone has a right to win games, so we've got to continually
06:07work to make sure we look after ourselves no matter who you're playing.
06:10And just in terms of the sort of off-field stuff and the stability, do you feel like
06:13as opposed to a year ago, do you feel like a lot more optimism about the off-field stuff
06:16and the stability?
06:17Well it's early but the fact that the new owners are coming in and they're speaking
06:21about stability, they're speaking about putting the club back where it belongs but they're
06:25also speaking about time, I think they're aware that it's a challenging situation to
06:30get right and to grow and to build, so yes I would say there's at least clarity on their
06:37words which is stability, I think that's a good start point.
06:48Sean, that's the second game of the season where you've had more possession at home but
06:52you've failed to win for ever being the first one, what do you do differently then to break
06:57these teams at home?
06:58Yes, you're looking for a moment, you're looking for a moment of skill, a moment of
07:02talent, block defence is hard, we've done it ourselves quite obviously recently and
07:06it's hard to break down particularly when someone's in front and particularly these
07:09because that's how they've been playing home and away and they're doing it very,
07:11very well, like I say I commend them for it, there's no question of that, I don't
07:15want people to swerve that the wrong way, styles in the Premier League are ones that
07:19are effective and theirs is very effective, so you're consistently challenging the players
07:23how to break that down but if you look across a division there's not many who can and it's
07:27a difficult process when you have to do that and we didn't do it today, we've got to
07:32continually look and find ways.
07:34Just how has Jack Harris come on part-time and Nathan Passon, what's Nathan been doing?
07:38Yes, just trying to, Young has just come back in the side and Pau we know is more of a going
07:44forward player, advancing down the pitch which I thought he tried to affect doing
07:49that, so yes, there's one of your ways, you're talking about working on ways on how
07:54you can affect it, Jasper the same, he thought could he give us that moment, could he give
07:59us a cross particularly because he's got a powerful cross on him and he nearly did of
08:05course, a couple of glancing headers and that type of thing, we didn't find a way through
08:08them today but like I say many haven't this season so I commend them for it because they're
08:12doing all the ugly stuff and they're doing it very, very well and they've got a centre
08:15forward who's absolutely playing out of his skin.
08:17Okay, thanks everyone.
