00:00With most grocery chains and business places shut down for Christmas Day,

00:05there's always a shopping center or mall open to take in those huddled mass of Christmas Day shoppers

00:11and hangout feeds wishing to congregate and celebrate.

00:15And with dark, threatening clouds hanging over and rain falling all day since yesterday,

00:21even more Filipinos in the megacity and elsewhere find more excuse to head out to the malls for cover

00:28and to celebrate Christmas Day safely and dry.

00:32Our Luisa Erispe tells us more.

00:37Throughout the whole day of Christmas, the city of Manila experienced gusty and rainy weather.

00:42But because Christmas is the season of celebration and family reunions,

00:46the rain did not stop Filipinos from finding a place to celebrate in Manila.

00:51That is why some of them chose indoors instead of the usual outdoor public parks,

00:56like Ali's family, whose original plan is to visit Luneta.

01:00But instead, they went straight to Manila Ocean Park, a popular indoor and amusement hangout.

01:06Eventually, it turned out way better than expected because of the park's new surprises for children,

01:12such as the Christmas Village, where they can try new rides,

01:15and the Philippine Biodome featuring several animals.

01:27Besides the indoor parks, there were also a few who chose the safer and more popular option,

01:33a trip to the malls, like Shahira's family,

01:35who fell in queue as early as 9 in the morning on a debut screening of the Metro Manila Film Festival.

01:57Outdoor parks still had a few visitors.

02:00In Manila Zoo, where a few families pushed through with their plans.

02:27According to the Manila Police District, several visitors were expected in Manila's parks and malls,

02:32hence the deployment of more than a thousand officers throughout the city.

02:37In all places of convergence, we have deployments there.

02:41In places where there are a lot of people,

02:44we have people who are being blended there,

02:47those who are in plainclothes, our police,

02:49to monitor those who might commit crimes.
