Living Nativity draws visitors to Slovenia

While the Postojna cave in western Slovenia is a long way from Bethlehem, visitors can find a living version of the Nativity there during the holiday season. With angels singing, music playing and lights illuminating the ceilings and walls of the limestone caves, the event expects to attract around 24,000 visitors for the performances along a five-kilometer (3-mile) route. The tradition of living Nativity plays at Postojna started in 1989 and features costumed performers, actors and singers with light and sound effects. The cave itself was formed over millions of years and became well known tourist spot in the early 19th century, with an underground train built to carry visitors to see its caverns.
