00:00A student group has slammed the Higher Education Ministry over its silence on sexual harassment

00:06allegations against a university Malaya professor who allegedly shared nude pictures of himself

00:12with students.

00:13UM Feminism Club President Chin Jes Wang also claimed that certain UM student groups had

00:19mostly remained silent when the alleged victims needed support, contrary to their promises

00:24of combating sexual harassment during the campus elections.

00:28Chin and UM Gender Studies Master's graduate S. Indra Malar also presented a memorandum

00:34which is supported by 27 NGO representatives like the Women's Aid Organization and Swara

00:39Rakyat Malaysia to UM's Integrity Unit Head.

00:42Their demands include an immediate suspension of the professor pending an investigation

00:47for the allegations to be investigated thoroughly and for reforms to UM's sexual harassment

00:52policies.

00:53On December 18th, UM confirmed receiving a report on the allegations against the professor

00:58but declined to comment on the case as it had been referred to the authorities for investigation.

01:04Indra Malar claimed that this was not an isolated incident, saying a small-scale survey by UMFC

01:09found that one in five students at the university had experienced sexual harassment.

01:14She also called for the establishment of an independent sexual harassment office or ombudsman

01:19within the university to ensure impartiality in handling complaints.
