00:00Alan Jones gave an extraordinary statement but then again these are extraordinary scenes.
00:08At the front of the Downing Centre where there was a huge press pack waiting for him he refuted
00:13any wrongdoing and said he would be fighting the charges against him.
00:18Firstly let me say this, I'm certainly not guilty and I'll be presenting my account to
00:26a jury as you heard this morning.
00:29I will not be engaging in a running commentary in the media but I want you to understand
00:37this, these allegations are all either baseless or they distort the truth and you should know
00:47that prior to my arrest I was given no opportunity by police to answer any of these allegations.
00:56I have never indecently assaulted these people, the law assumes that I'm not guilty and I
01:04am not guilty.
01:06The veteran broadcaster faces 34 charges from 10 complainants, the police bringing their
01:12case before the Downing Centre court today but an arrest was made last month where only
01:1826 charges were initially raised, an additional 8 laid in court today.
01:23These charges include 11 counts of aggravated indecent assaults, 19 counts of assaults with
01:29active indecency, 2 counts of sexually touching another person without consent and 2 counts
01:35of common assaults.
01:37Of note as well in Mr Jones' statement is that he wanted to present his account to a
01:41jury and he also took umbrage with the police process from arrest to charging him, saying
01:47he had not been contacted by police before the matter was brought before him at Day Street
01:51Police Station.
01:53The matter now adjourned for the rest of 2024, it will return to courts in March 2025.
