00:00with a story we discussed last weekend entering conference title Saturday that
00:10felt at the time like maybe it was an onion headline or just a leverage play
00:16for the National Football League this week it all became a reality the new head
00:21football coach of North Carolina is Bill Belichick the guy that has won the most
00:26Super Bowls as a head coach in the history of the National Football League
00:31will coach collegiately for the first time in his life at the age of 72 Joe
00:39this came to be earlier in the week that no this was legitimate that the
00:44interviews that Bill Belichick had had with UNC were for this actual head
00:49coaching vacancy and then throughout the week it was reported a contract was in
00:54place it just needed approval on Wednesday night it became official a
00:59Thursday introductory press conference in Chapel Hill Bill Belichick is the new
01:05head coach of Carolina as you watched him speak at his introductory presser
01:10what did you make of Bill Belichick's approach to becoming UNC's next head
01:14football coach? That they're potentially the most organized team within the
01:17conference I honestly believe that right from the get-go I think he's an added
01:21dimension in regards to this program we saw Matt Brown take it to a level they
01:26plateaued and now Bill Belichick is looking to take this team to an ACC
01:30championship and more importantly a college football playoff whether he gets
01:34there or not remains to be seen seven and a half win total already on FanDuel
01:38plus 106 to the over it's juiced heavily to the under to start but I'll just say
01:44this and I and we talked about it on the radio Ben you know he understands the
01:47current landscape of college football he's close friends with Nick Saban his
01:51former assistant Bill O'Brien's currently coaching within the conference
01:55at Boston College he understands what it takes and as we see NIL creep in and the
02:01transfer portal it's looking more and more like the NFL and that's where I
02:05believe Bill Belichick can coach his team up I believe that from just a
02:10mentoring standpoint and technique and game planning and X's and O's this team
02:15will be significantly better or long-term than what they were with Matt
02:20Brown now whether that means in year one they hit the ground running I'm willing
02:24to take that bet I would take the over early on based off the schedule but I
02:28think he's gonna be a great addition to the conference Kev I want to make this
02:32point with the win total is this happens all the time when there's a big story is
02:36some books FanDuel is very good at it was that a story we'll attach a number
02:40to it and for some reason someone in that room threw out a six-and-a-half
02:46thinking probably they weren't six this year which is crazy there went total
02:51this year was seven a half yeah they went under that number obviously that's
02:55part of the reason Matt Brown was let go the fact that they hung that six and a
02:59half and I was watching it went minus 113 minus 138 minus 170 and someone in
03:07that room grabbed somebody by the shirt and said listen to me right now if you
03:11make North Carolina would build out to our biggest liability before it's 2025
03:16but move this thing and now it's seven and a half and we do you know we have up
03:20there oh the over was plus 124 not anymore now it's plus 102 and here's the
03:26thing we know this well we do this all the time if we get to next year's
03:32preview shows and we are breaking down in North Carolina eight and a half win
03:36total that wouldn't be stunning oh why would that be stunning North Carolina is
03:41a team that is usually very competitive within this conference and it is a
03:46conference that is open that this year saw SMU debut and go unbeaten in
03:52conference play Clemson is look clearly going to have some level of good with as
03:58long as dabble is there right but clearly losing their fastball due to his
04:03approach in the portal Miami and crystal ball maybe they never get over
04:07the hump we're still gonna have Florida State is one of the best odds and there
04:11was truly one of the worst power conference teams all year long so before
04:15you even get to Bill Belichick specifically North Carolina football was
04:21likely always going to have top six odds to win the ACC next year for even throw
04:27Bill in the mix Ben and let's talk about that football program on tobacco Road
04:31yes football first and foremost is not what Carolina is known for but this is
04:36not Deion Sanders to Colorado taking over for a one-win football team in all
04:41six seasons led by led by Mac Brown in his second stint they reached a ball
04:47game they got to at least six wins six of the last ten years for UNC they have
04:52won at least eight games there is a standard in Carolina to be successful in
04:58college football sure they have not won an ACC championship since 1980 but they
05:03have played in the ACC title game in the last five seasons but now let's talk the
05:09person the figure and the football success that is Bill Belichick nobody in
05:14the history of the National Football League as a head coach has won more than
05:18Barty trophies Bill's got six nobody has played in more Super Bowls bills made
05:23nine appearances in that big game including his postseason victories he
05:28has three hundred and thirty-three wins that is second most in the history of
05:33the National Football League only 14 when shy of the great Don Shula so Kev
05:38there is the thought of why would Bill Belichick want to coach collegiately and
05:44once he has now made this decision will it work what say you so to me I think it
05:50has a great chance to work there's one thing I am worried about which is
05:53something that hurt him at new in New England down the back stretches it seems
05:56like he is only comfortable working with like six people like if they name
06:00Patricia the offensive coordinator I might sing a different song but but it's
06:06if you look at the landscape right and we all follow both obviously very
06:10closely is if you're a high-level coach how is college not more attractive
06:16there's now they're both very pro level the difference is the job security that
06:21Bill Belichick will be there as long as he wants leasing yeah and with his son
06:24potentially moving over from Washington to join the staff in the offseason
06:29that's always a possibility as well I will say when you just look at what he
06:33has said and stated about the program that he wants it to be a next level
06:38situation where kids come to North Carolina get an education but their main
06:43concern is to be elevated to the next level as a top 10 top 15 draft pick that
06:49brings a lot of weight with you and that that sells whether Bill Belichick is
06:53going into the homes of these 17 18 year olds or not that that process is there
