00:00What has been the reaction, Adam, to Bill Belichick getting the North Carolina job?
00:08We've talked extensively about it here on Coast to Coast today, but we want to hear
00:13it from your end and from the league's end.
00:15Yeah, Scott, this is one in my 27 years to cover the National Football League, and I
00:20have to go back of the three biggest surprises.
00:24This is certainly top three, maybe the biggest one.
00:27So guys just don't believe it.
00:30I know some coaches have worked for Bill in the past, so one morning it sounded like it
00:34was going to happen.
00:35If you want to ask me last weekend, I'm like, come on, this can't happen.
00:39But I know someone is connected to the Patriots staff, and some of these guys are going to
00:43be joining them.
00:44And it's just one of these situations where at 72 years old, nobody could believe Bill
00:49Belichick is going to go into a kid's home with the parents and sit them down.
00:52Hey, we want to sign your son, Johnny, to be a player on our football team.
00:58It's bizarre to me.
00:59And the thing that I think a lot of NFL people, Scott, have a hard time understanding or actually
01:05accepting is that nobody really wanted Bill as an NFL head coach anymore.
01:09Bill wanted a coach.
01:11Bill took the job that he knew he can get, the Carolina job, and it had to be done this
01:15week because with NIL and the transfer portal and the millions of dollars that are being
01:21exchanged trying to get players to go from school to school, and Mike Lombardi knows
01:26it.
01:27Mike Lombardi is going to be his GM.
01:28And it's crazy that these colleges have GMs, and Mike was with him in Cleveland, so they've
01:32known each other for over 30 years.
01:34The bottom line is this had to happen now.
01:36They couldn't wait.
01:37There are very few jobs open as it is, and Bill is not getting an NFL head coaching job.
01:41Though, I do believe, though, I do believe if he would have waited, at least he could
01:45have been in the running for the Dallas job of Mike McCarthy to return because Belichick
01:49and Jerry Jones know each other, and Jerry Jones has been very upfront in the respect
01:53he has for Belichick.
01:54But Bill couldn't wait.
01:55He had no idea if he was going to get an interview.
01:57The teams that are looking for head coaches now, they don't want them, and that's the
02:02stunning thing.
02:03Bill does not have the reputation that he once had, obviously one of the best coaches
02:08in professional sports history, but his legacy is, yes, he did draft Tom Brady.
02:13You've got to give him credit for that and all the rings that he got, but he never won
02:17a ring without Bill, without Tom.
02:18Tom and Bill never won another ring together.
02:20So what?
02:21That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.
02:24He drafted him, and he won all those Super Bowls with him, but he never won without him.
02:29Listen, this guy is one of the greatest coaches ever.
02:32I'll tell you what, you know what the problem is, is that, now listen, one of the problems
02:36is, is that all of these NFL teams are a bunch of idiots because they hire all these hack-ass
02:42coaches that don't win jack-shack at all, ever.
02:46All these young assistants and all these next geniuses and all of these, oh, he's such a
02:52forward thinking, what a revolutionary offensive mind.
02:56None of them can hold Bill Belichick's package, and they make themselves look like idiots.
03:02The fact that that guy has no interest at all in the NFL, to me, is laughable.
03:09And I'll tell you another reason, Jerry Jones isn't even smart enough to bring him in because
03:12he's an old washed up geezer himself, and he's going to keep Mike McCarthy in that job,
03:18and Bill Belichick's going to do great at North Carolina, and he's going to teach those
03:21kids more than anything they've ever learned in their entire lives.
03:25The NFL is egg on its face, what a bunch of morons they are.
03:30The way they've treated this guy that's short of being the greatest coach that ever lived
03:35in NFL history, that he doesn't matter anymore, is laughable, yet every television network
03:40in the world has to have him on TV.
03:43What doesn't he do?
03:44Meanwhile, to be able to run these teams like these idiots at the Jets and Giants, they're
03:49the morons, and don't even tell me I'm wrong.
03:52Don't get me started.
