Transcript
00:00West Bromwich and Albion have won a game of football on home soil for the first time in nearly three months.
00:07A 2-0 victory over Coventry City tonight on a very cold Wednesday evening in December against Frank Lampard's team.
00:15It wasn't exactly comfortable as Alex Palmer had a number of important saves to make, especially in that first half,
00:21and then a flurry of opportunities in the second period as well.
00:24But it's an important win, an important three points to seize the baggies back up to sixth in the championship.
00:30It was a very important night for Kyle Scorbrown as he finally got his team back to winning ways.
00:35There's been so many draws, especially on home soil, and of course it's not the worst thing in the world to draw games as you're not losing.
00:42The unbeaten streak is now 11 matches in the championship, but nine of those have been draws,
00:48and fans are starting to get a bit frustrated, thinking, when are we actually going to turn any of these into victories?
00:53Well, they finally have, courtesy of goals from Alex Mowat and Carlin Grant.
00:57There was a third-minute opportunity for Norman Bassett, the Coventry striker, who really should have opened the scoring for the away side.
01:04A long ball over the top, Topshaw and Higgins failed to deal with it, and then Bassett cleansed the wrong goal,
01:09denied by Palmer, who really set the tone for his evening as he made so many saves like that.
01:14He's coming out and smothering the ball, also saving a couple of great headers that were goal-bound.
01:20Very great performance from Palmer. Inspirational, you could say, from the goalkeeper, who has now kept 10 clean sheets in 20 championship matches this season.
01:28And then Carlin Grant's goal was just absolutely sublime. This man has been completely reborn this season, it would seem.
01:34Takes the ball from Topshaw Higgins, who actually made amends for his mistake by putting in a great defensive performance.
01:40Higgins plays the ball inside to Grant, and he takes it past two, three, maybe even four Coventry players, before slotting it into the bottom left-hand corner.
01:48Just outside the area, had so much pace on the ball, so much drive into the bottom corner, giving the goalkeeper no chance whatsoever.
01:55At that stage, around 80 minutes into the game, West Brom able to see out the results, an important victory to move back into the top six.
02:03It's one that gives Carlos Corbijn's men a lot more confidence. Finally, the draws are over at the Hawthorns, a victory under the lies.
02:12It's a fantastic night for the Baggies.
