00:00Many Canadians are currently struggling with their finances.
00:03For those who are, it's a growing source of stress.
00:06Some municipal governments are responding by finding ways to build financial support
00:11into the broader community services they offer.
00:13Non-profit organizations that create financial support empowerment programs,
00:17such as Prosper Canada, are helping them do this by assisting residents
00:21with things like maximizing their tax returns,
00:24gaining access to government benefits, and getting free income counselling.
00:28The organization's CEO, Elizabeth Mulholland, explains more.
00:32Our Prosperity Gateways program helps municipal services,
00:35like libraries, public transit, social assistance offices,
00:38to deliver or connect people to practical financial information
00:42and hands-on help that they often need but have real trouble finding elsewhere.
00:45One example is a project run through a local library
00:49that helped more than 1,350 people file their tax returns.
00:53Those people collectively received just over $3 million in refunds.
