00:4510% of the total production of sugar in the country comes from the aforementioned area.

02:01From Php 2,100 per sack of sugar, the farm gate price dropped to Php 2,400.

02:12Meanwhile, prices in the markets did not change.

02:32Moreover, while the mill gate price of sugars dropped significantly,

02:38supermarket prices have remained the same consistently,

02:43creating a huge disparity that burdens both our small farmers and also our consumers.

02:50The Secretary is very concerned with the pricing.

02:55The supply side is fine.

02:57The supply is stable.

02:59There is no oversupply.

03:02We have a buffer.

03:04If there is any claim to it, it is up to the buyers of the farmer price.

03:13For now, the buying side of sugar is private sector control.

03:19Maybe it's either SRA or another government agency can do it.

03:24At least, there is a bit of competition.

03:27Because for now, there is none.

03:29It's purely free market.

03:33Joshua, the Sugar Regulatory Administration of the Department of Agriculture

03:38and various stakeholders in the sugar industry

03:41are discussing how to address the drop in the farm gate price of sugar.

03:46One of the things they are looking at is to buy from the national government

03:50or local governments to buy the sugars of our farmers

03:56so that traders or businessmen can have competition

04:00to buy the price of sugar from our sugar cane farmers.

04:07How much is the farm gate price of sugar now?

04:10And how much should it be?

04:15Joshua, according to the Sugar Regulatory Administration,

04:18the farm gate price of sugar should be at least P52 per kilo.

04:23But for now, it has dropped to P48.

04:27So, it means that it is P4 less per kilo.

04:31We will multiply that by 50 to get the equivalent of the additional income

04:35that should be in each sack of sugar.

04:38So, if the farm gate price supposedly drops,

04:41according to the SRA, the retail price should also drop.
