00:00Welcome to Medihan TV and Zoom in this chronicle on the young director Leïla Msefer,
00:16who participated in the 21st edition of the International Film Festival in Marrakech at the Atlas studios.
00:24How did she experience this experience?
00:26We're going to ask her the question, since Leïla Msefer, it's a pleasure and an honor to be with you.
00:32Thank you very much for accepting our invitation.
00:34You participated in the Atlas studios. How did you experience this intense week?
00:41Oh yes, it's really intense, it's beautiful.
00:44So, from the beginning, it's non-stop meetings, very interesting.
00:50People from all over the world, from the United States, from Europe, from Arab countries.
00:56It's really very, very enriching.
01:00And I thank the organizers because it's a unique chance, an opportunity, at least for me,
01:06because I met people I would never have met elsewhere.
01:10And so many, because they're all there in a beautiful setting, the Riyadh Heneya,
01:16in a festive atmosphere.
01:20Everyone is very open, open to meetings, exchanges.
01:24When someone can help someone or find a connection.
01:28Honestly, bravo, I loved it.
01:32So, a new experience for you.
01:35And I imagine you came with a project, probably a feature film.
01:41Can you tell us a little bit about this feature film
01:45and how you are going to take this step towards a new life in the cinema?
01:51Well, I knew the path was long,
01:55but by joining the Atlas studios,
01:59I realize that it is really long and not easy.
02:03There is a lot of work to do.
02:07Thanks to the studios, I met people who helped me a lot, who taught me a lot.
02:13I benefited from the help or assistance of consultants,
02:19in screenplay, in production,
02:23in short, all the different areas to realize, to complete a film.
02:29I'm doing my best, I hope it will be a project.
02:33But I know the path is long and you really have to hang on.
02:37It's not easy to make a good final product, a beautiful project, God willing.
02:43In any case, I had the opportunity to see your short films.
02:47It's always new.
02:49What makes you decide to go long, to transform your experience,
02:53your short film experience, into a long experience?
02:57Are they beautiful films that you have seen?
03:01Or do you, as an architect, want to create a cinematographic universe
03:09other than the one we know from short films?
03:13I think I can only speak from my own experience and what I feel.
03:19For me, it's a journey.
03:23I come from the field of architecture.
03:27My first short film was a story about an architect.
03:33What makes me want to make a film is to tell a story.
03:37The more I know, the more the story touches us,
03:43the closer we get to it, the more authentic it is.
03:47What we are looking for are stories that come from the heart.
03:51When it comes from the heart, it's a story that is so dear to us
03:57that we want to tell it.
03:59It's important to have a story that comes from the heart.
04:03Sincerely, we say to ourselves, I have to talk about it, I have to tell it.
04:07I know you want to tell stories to an audience
04:11who discovered you at festivals here and elsewhere.
04:14When you have already participated in these workshops,
04:17you had the opportunity to make connections, meetings, exchanges
04:21with filmmakers, producers, distributors, screenwriters.
04:25In any case, all the professions, I know that at the Atlas workshops,
04:29it is an opportunity to meet all the bodies of cinema professions,
04:33those who are known, those who are less known.
04:35Did you set a date, a goal, to present your first feature film to the public?
04:44Really, it's not a precise date.
04:47For now, I'm really at the development stage.
04:52For me, the most important thing for a feature film,
04:55but I think that in general, it is necessary to do a good job.
04:58I do my best to really be accompanied,
05:01because a film is made in a team.
05:03So I don't work alone, I work with qualified people.
05:07And to really make a film that stands out,
05:10I don't just want to make a film to do it.
05:13You really have to make a good film.
05:15And for that, you can't work alone.
05:17So basically, what I'm doing is really trying to be accompanied
05:20by very qualified people.
05:22And the workshops allow me to do that,
05:24because I've had extraordinary meetings.
05:27Frankly, there are only very, very qualified people.
05:30I'll tell you that, I'll say it again.
05:33Leyla, thank you very much for accepting our invitation.
05:36In any case, we look forward to your invitation with great impatience.
05:39As if I were taking you by surprise, but in any case, we'll be waiting for you.
