Context:

How to understand duality?
How to go beyond your limits?
Is it possible to go beyond your limits?
Are we a flux?
How to understand our tendencies?
Why do we get stuck within our patterns?

00:00In a recent session, one had heard from you that the binary of going up and down in life
00:20will continue.
00:21It would never happen that you will have either only highs or only lows.
00:26So somebody had asked that the person was experiencing these highs and lows very frequently.
00:35So I could relate to this question and I was in a way anticipating a response.
00:41But what you said was very radical for me.
00:43You had said that in this movement, such a movement will exist.
00:49It would not cease.
00:50What you have to ensure is that this movement is upward and not downward.
00:56So your lows have to be higher lows and you're talking about the spiritual journey.
01:03In general, in an everyday living from day to night, my response would only be in the
01:08context of spiritual movement.
01:10Yes, yes, yes, of course.
01:14So if one can hear a little more about it, it will be helpful.
01:18Like you had said that this image has stuck in my mind, you moving your hand and saying
01:23not this, but this.
01:27So if one can hear about it a little more, it will be.
01:31This is the superimposition of two curves.
01:38This is the curve y is equal to sine x.
01:43This is a curve y is equal to sine x.
01:46It really never attains any height.
01:52It moves centered on the y-axis.
01:57The highs and the lows, both are predetermined and dualistic in a sense.
02:03You know of the sine curve, right?
02:08You know of the sine curve, right?
02:15So y is equal to sine x.
02:22Now, add to this the curve y is equal to x.
02:26How does the curve y is equal to x look like?
02:30It is a straight line from the origin and passing through the origin at 45 degrees to
02:39both the x and y-axis.
02:55These two when added give the curve that you are talking of.
03:03What does the addition of these two curves mean?
03:06Addition is both Prakriti and something else.
03:09Prakriti is y is equal to sine x.
03:12You are confined within duality.
03:14Ups and downs, ups and downs, leading to nothing.
03:18The up will not remain up forever.
03:20The down will not remain down forever, crests and troughs, crests and troughs.
03:25That is Prakriti.
03:29In a state of endless movement, day and night, summer and winter, dry and wet, here and there,
03:46yesterday and tomorrow, that is y is equal to sine x.
03:51Man is usually just Prakriti.
03:55So his life too remains confined within the limits of that curve.
04:01A lot seems to be happening.
04:03Nothing really happens.
04:04The curve of life seems to be going up, going up, going up and then it comes down.
04:11Goes down, goes down and then there is a great apprehension that it will go down into some
04:16kind of an endless pit and then suddenly there is a revival and there is celebration.
04:24The curve has taken some inflection.
04:27So instead of going forever down, what does the curve do?
04:31Celebration, celebration, the economy has revived and now it goes up and then what happens?
04:38Now as it is going up and your hopes are soaring, suddenly tragedy strikes and the curve takes
04:46again a downward turn and you remain interested.
04:50It's also gripping.
04:52You are never allowed to lose interest because always something is happening, something is
04:56changing.
04:57Either hope beckons you or tragedy threatens you.
05:04But all in all, what is happening, nothing.
05:10You are not allowed to rise beyond a point, worse still, you are not even allowed to fall
05:19beyond a point.
05:26Life just keeps moving, moving, moving like this, like this, like this.
05:29Do you see this?
05:32Now this will keep happening because you are identified with the body.
05:37Even to ask this question there has to be a body.
05:41But life is life only if there is another curve as well that I am calling as Y is equal
05:47to X.
05:48A curve that takes you upwards, it's a very separate thing.
05:56It is the curve of consciousness that is not satisfied with merely being Prakriti, merely
06:01eating, farting, excreting, sweating, reproducing, no.
06:09What is there in it?
06:11All the time you are inhaling, exhaling, blinking your eyes, moving your hands and limbs, combing
06:17your hair, brushing your teeth.
06:22Is that what you are living for?
06:25And then sometimes you have diarrhea.
06:28That's what life is, right?
06:30Anybody who has never had diarrhea?
06:33Anybody who has never had measles or chicken pox?
06:36That's life.
06:37That's life as a body.
06:39Is there anything more to life as a body?
06:45Anything more?
06:46Yeah, maybe.
06:47A running nose.
06:51And if you don't have all the vaccinations done, then the bacteria and viruses will tell
06:58you what it means to be a body.
07:01Every part of your body would be infested by some pathogen.
07:08That is y is equal to sine x.
07:09Oh, I am healthy, healthy, healthy.
07:16Disease strikes.
07:17But then most diseases are self-limiting.
07:20So even as your condition is deteriorating, after a point, you find that the fever is
07:26ebbing off.
07:27Doesn't that happen with most fevers?
07:29Let's say malaria.
07:30There is a time duration.
07:33Health keeps falling, falling, falling, fever keeps rising, rising, rising.
07:36And then one day you find that the fever is gone.
07:40So you are not even allowed to just keep falling indefinitely.
07:48That's life as a body.
07:53Things come and go.
07:54Nothing really happens.
07:57And then there is the curve of consciousness.
08:01The curve of consciousness.
08:07It is not satisfied lying flat in the x dimension.
08:17It wants to rise up.
08:18It wants to have a y movement.
08:28But it is helpless and constrained because our consciousness cannot operate free of the
08:36body.
08:37Ours is a body-dependent consciousness.
08:40Even our consciousness depends on the brain.
08:44Does it not?
08:45Hit the brain hard and where is consciousness?
08:47It is such a debilitating thing with being human.
08:52Even consciousness depends on the body.
08:56So the body cannot just be kept away or thrown away.
09:01So the two must go together.
09:03Hence your life curve must be y is equal to sine x plus x.
09:09Then the curve would be, ups and downs would be there.
09:14But those ups would keep getting progressively higher.
09:20And even the lows would keep getting progressively higher.
09:24So the body will keep doing its own thing.
09:26But you will find that all in all you are rising.
09:29You are not merely y is equal to sine x.
09:31You are now y is equal to sine x plus x.
09:33Hell, make it x square.
09:36Y is equal to sine x plus x square.
09:39And if you can make it y is equal to sine x plus x raised to the power n.
09:42Where n tends to infinity.
09:45You are done right now, irrespective of the body.
09:49Depends on your intent, the strength of your desperation and determination.
10:09Never think that the bodily curve will let you free.
10:14The bodily curve will remain.
10:19You just have to superimpose another curve on that.
10:23Let the body do its thing.
10:25I will do my thing.
10:27I cannot stop the body.
10:28But I won't let the body stop me either.
10:33If you won't listen to me, am I going to listen to you?
11:03The curve of body will be there.
11:17That is the curve of Prakriti.
11:19And the curve of consciousness is also there.
11:25Just ensure that the curve of consciousness is steep enough to carry and rather override
11:38the body.
