Live updates: US midterm elections
Transcript
00:00Hello, everybody.
00:04I'm Scott Shuey.
00:05And I'm Ed Klaus.
00:06And tonight we're going to bring you the results of the 2018 U.S. midterm election.
00:11Will it be a blue trickle or a blue wave or neither?
00:15Maybe even a blue tsunami.
00:17It's going to be a long night no matter what the end result is.
00:21Right now it's still relatively early in the U.S. and the polling stations are still open.
00:26We will not have our first results back until around 3 a.m. local time.
00:31That's around 8 p.m. eastern time.
00:33I believe the first house to call it is Kentucky.
00:35Well, actually, it'll be mostly someone in New England, a little bit on the eastern seaboard,
00:40although we may get early results from Kentucky and possibly Indiana.
00:44OK.
00:45And tonight, if you're not aware, the midterms are a biannual election taking place every
00:51two years in between presidential elections and they determine often the House of Representatives,
00:58the Senate and in this case also governors in 30 states.
01:03And this is probably the most contentious election in a generation.
01:06A lot of people are seeing this as a referendum on U.S. President Donald Trump and his policies
01:10around the world and in the U.S.
01:12So keep coming back here for updates throughout the evening.
01:15We will give you a whole bunch of stories and keep you updated on the results when they
01:19do start to come through.
01:20Thanks very much.
