Top Artists Rock Radio 1 LIVE
Transcript
00:00It was billed as the hottest night of the year, featuring some of the biggest international
00:10artists, and Radio 1 Live didn't disappoint. Around 3,000 people turned out at Dubai's
00:16tennis stadium for the invite-only event, which was supported by some of the UAE's
00:21top DJs and musicians.
00:24The event is a first for Dubai, a packed-out concert broadcast live on the radio.
00:38On the bill was a mix of international and local talent. UAE band Abri have shot to fame
00:43this year with their debut album, Sunchild, and they had some advice for other local bands
00:48trying to get their foot in the door.
00:54You listen to everything, man.
00:55The open mind.
00:56Yeah, the open mind, exactly. And then use all those influences.
01:00Another crowd puller was Lebanese-born R&B star Carl Wolff. He also has roots in Dubai
01:06and pulled off a high-energy performance.
01:10I was here for 12 hours. These are my people. Whoever's in the crowd are either my friends
01:15or people that love me, a lot of Arab people, which is, you know, I'm Arabic as well.
01:19So it was nice that they came out and represented.
01:21Headlining the night was ex-Destiny's Child singer Kelly Rowland. The Grammy Award winner
01:26has had a successful career since going solo, with two top-selling albums. She said she
01:31was looking for something a little bit different for her next video.
01:34I'm sick of seeing cars. I'm sick of seeing chicks in videos. Like, why wouldn't you want
01:40to expose people to something different? I'm not mad at that idea. I also think that it's
01:45a way for people to just experience something different.
01:49Organizers could be throwing another Radio 1 party soon, and they hope to attract the
01:53best acts in the industry once again.
