Temora grazier and agronomist Dave Bushell examines native summer grasses regenerating after recent rainfall, noting productive feed potential and plans to graze post-Christmas to manage fire risk.
Transcript
00:00We've just got some native summers species coming up here. So we had 18 mil of rain last week
00:06and just with the day length we've got some, it's trying to get
00:12reproductive already which is really good. So we'll have some natural seed regeneration you
00:18can see here we've got pretty good ground cover. If we do get more summer rain this is really gonna
00:25really gonna, it's actually quite productive feed this time of year. Plus we've got some
00:32of the winter stuff still here so that's a really nice mix of feed. It's got a dry residue here.
00:39This will get a graze sort of after Christmas basically. Reduce the fire risk and knock that
00:45dry grass down a little bit in preparation for 2025. So what are we looking at? That's a bit of
00:51natural plains grass here. It's just about run out of water but we've got a lot of dry
01:00medic and clover rye grass. So this is all ungrazed since how long?
01:10It had a small number of cattle but only 20 cows basically in here so it's
01:15yeah virtually had no grazing for the last six months.
