00:00Hi there, good morning. Storm Dara is on the way later today and into the weekend.
00:05It wasn't the lively weather we experienced last night. That was a different low which
00:10is now moving away and it's a bright start to the day for many of us. It's chilly but
00:14actually for much of the country, sunny skies through the morning. A few showers for the
00:19north and west of Scotland and then through the afternoon things deteriorate rapidly.
00:23In the west, heavy rain and increasing winds arrive, especially for Northern Ireland, Western
00:28Scotland and then later on for parts of Wales in the south west. As that moves in, actually
00:33temperatures will begin to rise, so 12 Celsius in the far south west but remaining in the
00:38mid to high single figures elsewhere, so feeling chilly for much of the day, especially as
00:43it turns wetter into the afternoon. This is Storm Dara. Initially, we've got the heavy
00:48and persistent rain moving in and then as the rain moves through overnight, we've got
00:54blustery showers and further clumps of rain pushing in. But the strengthening winds really
01:00arrive early Saturday and continue to build up as we go through the day on Saturday. Higher
01:08pressure to the west is squeezing up against Dara as Dara is moving through and the ISA
01:15bars will continue to tighten leading to increasingly strong winds and widespread gales. So, initially
01:23on Friday night, we've got wet weather moving in and strengthening winds. The rain falling
01:28as snow above 300 metres for Scotland and then as the main band of rain moves through,
01:33we start Saturday with further wet weather pushing into parts of Western England, Wales,
01:37Northern Ireland and Scotland and it's in these areas where there's the risk of disruption
01:42from rain because of widely 30 millimetres and in some places more than 60 millimetres
01:46of rain, particularly Northern Ireland and Wales. It's a less chilly start to the day
01:50of course because of all the wet and windy weather sweeping in but nevertheless, it's
01:55going to be very unpleasant with rain or showers and strengthening winds in many places. Increasingly,
02:01it's the wind that is the main concern on Saturday itself, particularly for Western
02:07parts of the country, South West Scotland, Northern Ireland, Western England and Wales
02:12and that's going to make it feel cold with that wind increasingly coming from the north
02:18as the day plays out. Here's a look at the wind in more detail. As storm Dara crosses
02:24the UK on Saturday, widely we can expect gales and for Western Scotland, Northern Ireland,
02:30Southern Scotland, much of England and Wales, wind gusts will exceed 60 mph and there's
02:35the risk for some parts of Northern Ireland, South West Scotland, Wales and Western England
02:42of 70 mph inland and 80 or more around exposed coasts and headlands. So, that kind of wind
02:51could cause significant disruption, power cuts as well as damage to buildings, transport
02:56disruption and dangerous conditions around coastal areas with big waves and the potential
03:01for flying debris. That's why there's an amber warning in force at the time of recording
03:05but these warnings will continue to be under review over the next couple of days. It is
