00:00Starting today, you can buy 40 pesos per kilo of well-milled rice in the nearby markets.

00:13We managed to buy rice from Evelyn in Kamuning Market in Quezon City.

00:17She sells rice every day.

00:22The rice is still expensive.

00:25The lowest price I can afford is 45 pesos.

00:30Sometimes, it's 50 pesos.

00:32It's easy for us.

00:34She has nothing to do because she knows that rice is a must in food.

00:39It's important for us because we eat it every day.

00:44Morning, afternoon, and dinner.

00:46But like Evelyn, there will be a few mistakes of some buyers.

00:51This is the first mistake in public markets in Metro Manila,

00:55particularly in Guadalupe, Kamuning, Malabon, Pasay, and Las Pinas.

01:01Aside from this, the government's target is to open the President's Kiosk in other markets in Metro Manila.

01:08These are the markets where the price of rice is high.

01:16You can check, actually, it's in the range of 45 to more than 50 pesos, especially in Pasay.

01:24But this is not limited to the markets.

01:27Murang Bigas will also sell rice in LRT Station in Monumento and MRT Station in North Avenue.

01:33There are people who can buy 5 to 10 kilos of rice.

01:36But you can still buy a kilo of rice.

01:41And there's no limit to this.

01:43No matter how much, it's possible.

01:46We don't have any issue in terms of volume and stocks that we have when it comes to rice.

01:52According to the DA, they hope that this will not only spread in Metro Manila, but also in other provinces.

01:59We'll start with Metro Manila and eventually expand to other provinces.

02:07How are the rice harvested?

02:09Imported and locally grown.

02:12The President's Kiosk is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 8am to 5pm.

02:19Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture is pushing to revive the Anti-Rice Wastage Act.

02:26Under this law, restaurants are forced to serve half a cup of rice.

02:34For Tatay Donato, this must be passed.

02:37Because of the rice that is wasted by the customers in the restaurants.

02:41Sometimes, you can't eat that.

02:46We are poor, we only eat the birds.

02:50Based on the data of the Philippine Rice Institute of Field Rice,

02:53more than a tablespoon of rice is wasted by the Filipinos every day.

02:57This is equivalent to 250,000 metric tons per year or more than 5 million sacks of rice.

03:04If this is not wasted, it can feed 2.8 million Filipinos.
