00:00Tomorrow, the Rice for All program will be launched by the Department of Agriculture in several districts in Metro Manila,
00:07as well as in several stations of LRT and MRT.
00:10For some of our countrymen, it's a blessing to have a half-cup rice option for their meals.
00:18Here's the details on the latest news from Azaia Mirafuentes from PTV Manila.
00:25We finally managed to buy rice from Eveline in Kamuning Market in Quezon City.
00:29She says she goes to the market every day, and the rice never runs out.
00:34The rice is still expensive now.
00:37The lowest price I can buy is 45 pesos.
00:42Oh, it's 50 pesos.
00:44It's easy for us.
00:46She says she can't do anything because she knows that rice cannot run out when it comes to eating.
00:51It's important for us because we eat it every day.
00:56Morning, afternoon, and evening.
00:58But just like Eveline, there will be a few changes for some of our countrymen.
01:03Starting tomorrow, the Department of Agriculture will establish the President's Kiosk in several markets in NCR,
01:11where you can buy well-milled rice for 40 pesos per kilo.
01:16It will be the first to be sold in public markets in Metro Manila,
01:19particularly in Guadalupe, Kamuning, Malabon, Pasay, and Las Piñas.
01:25Aside from this, the government's target is to open the President's Kiosk in other markets in Metro Manila.
01:32These are the markets where the price of rice is a bit high at the moment.
01:40And you can check, actually, it's in the range of 45 to more than 50 pesos, especially in Pasay.
01:48But it's not just in the markets.
01:51They will also sell cheap rice at LRT Station in Monumento and MRT Station in North Avenue.
01:57There are bags of 5 to 10 kilos of rice.
02:00But you can still buy a kilo of rice.
02:05And there's no limit to how much you can buy.
02:09We don't have any issue in terms of volume and stocks that we have when it comes to rice.
02:16According to the DA, he hopes that this will not only spread in Metro Manila, but also in other provinces.
02:23We'll start with Metro Manila and eventually expand to other provinces.
02:30How will the rice be harvested?
02:33Imported and locally grown.
02:36The President's Kiosk opens on Tuesday to Saturday,
02:40from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
02:43Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture is pushing for the re-establishment of the Anti-Rice Wastage Act.
02:50Under this anti-rice wastage act, restaurants are forced to serve half a cup of rice.
02:58For Tatay Donato, this must be passed.
03:01Because of the wasted rice of the customers in the market.
03:05Sometimes, you can't eat that.
03:10It's so weak. We can only eat the birds.
03:14Based on the data of the Philippine Rice Institute of Field Rice,
03:17more than a tablespoon of rice is wasted by Filipinos every day.
03:21This is equivalent to 250,000 metric tons per year, or more than 5 million bags of rice.
03:28If this is not wasted, it can feed 2.8 million Filipinos.
03:34From PTV, I'm Sayan Mirafuentes, Balitang Pambansa.
