00:00First of all, when you play a character in a series, you get eight episodes to explore the entire character.
00:11This was a huge draw.
00:13And very few characters get to play a story arc from childhood to adulthood.
00:21So that is something that definitely drew me.
00:24And the fact that he was a vulnerable, innocent character, and the circumstances of his life took him in a direction that he had not even imagined in his dreams, was a definite draw towards the character.
00:41A lot of the clues to the character were in the script.
00:52It's fantastically written by Siddharth Sen Gupta.
00:54We did a lot of workshops because season one happened during the second lockdown.
00:59So all of the workshops happened during the lockdown phase on Zoom.
01:05And I write a lot when I prepare for a character.
01:09So understanding the backstory, asking questions of the writer and the director.
01:13And I think the fantastic thing about a series is that you get to collaborate with such fantastic talent.
01:20So having great stalwarts like Saurabh Shukla, like Brijinder Kala on set, all adds to the world that goes into forming the character.
01:28In season two, the most challenging scene to shoot is a scene that Shweta Tripathi and I shoot in a bathroom.
01:40It's a very violent scene, but there's a lot of heartfelt emotion in it at the same time.
01:47It also makes me relate to the fact that sometimes a protagonist can be faced with circumstances where he has the best of intentions.
01:56But he has to fight fire with fire, which is what in today's term we would call a violent hero.
02:03He's someone who has a heart of gold. He's fighting for all the right reasons.
02:09But he's battled into a corner where he has no choice but to take matters into his own hands.
02:17The shades of innocence come from an earnest and vulnerable past.
02:23It comes from a sense of being utopian, of seeing a future where all this character wants is to have the perfect life with the perfect girl.
02:32In a small house, with a small dog, in a small farm somewhere far away.
02:36But the beauty about drama and dramatic writing and Siddharth Sen Gupta's work is that nothing happens according to plan.
02:43And I think interesting stories are the ones where there's so much drama and conflict in the character's life that he has to go through paths that he would never imagine before.
02:52And that is where the menace comes in.
02:55He's battling such a big power structure and such powerful antagonists in this story that if he doesn't put his hand in that plate, he'll never be able to come out a winner for himself and his family.
03:13I look at it with a lot of gratitude.
03:15I'm very fortunate that we're sitting here right now.
03:19I did an interview for a Malayalam film 10 years ago.
03:22And there are very few people who get to work with such amazing directors and artists at such a young age.
03:29It started with the late Pradeep Sarkar.
03:32Then Nandita Das, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, John Abraham, Nitesh Tiwari, Kabir Khan, Ranveer Singh.
03:41To work with so many great people in such a short span of time, I consider myself very fortunate.
03:51I've always believed that it should be quality over quantity.
03:57But it is always great that the audience has expectations from you.
04:01I don't want to become an artist who is overrated.
04:06It's always better to leave the audience saying, that was great, when are we seeing that person next?
04:11And that's the kind of artist I want to be.
