00:00Honestly, Secret Superstar, I was there on set just for patchwork, so I saw 10 days of
00:10shoot, I was mostly there for post-production, so when I saw Zaira at the time act, she is
00:16one of the finest actors I have seen, so that really, really, really taught me so much as
00:20an actor, because at that time I was not sure if I want to do direction or acting, but once
00:26I was done with that film, I was dead sure that I want to be in films, whether it's as
00:31an actor or a director, I was not sure, but yeah, perspective as an actor just taught
00:38me to be honest with the moment, to just be very truthful while you are performing and
00:42listen to the director, as an actor that was the only thing I took away from that, because
00:47I feel every actor is different and I can't pinpoint one thing, but technicalities, catching
00:52light and basic stuff like that taught me a lot, honestly taught me a lot, and taught
00:56me to respect the craft, because everyone on that set was really, really, really involved
00:59in what they were doing, so yeah, that was it.
01:08Transitioning, I wouldn't be able to point out one thing, there were many things because
01:14once you actually want to, I went to film school also for about 3 or 4 months, but that
01:18was just a workshop, but I used to do a lot of online screenwriting courses, because I
01:22wanted to write, direct and stuff like that, so when you transition to an actor, of course,
01:27initially it's a bit difficult, that the scene is like this, do it like this, but that's
01:33the exact ego you have to break, I think, because if you try to analyse the thing from
01:37the other perspective when you are acting, I don't think you can always be open to receiving
01:41suggestions and changing your performance, and I think the best actors, at least I have
01:44seen, because I have assisted on a few ads and one film after also, were the ones who
01:49come in fully prepared, but when the director says, do this, or give me a different variation
01:53of this, or give me a different version of this, they are able to adapt, they are the
01:57ones who actually receive and listen, even if they are the most experienced actors, or
02:00if they are new, doesn't matter, if they can change on set, I feel that's magic, so
02:04transitioning, that was the only thing, breaking that whole perspective of, if I would have
02:08done this, how would I have done that, that's not it, of course, you can do that, but listening
02:12to the director and actually changing, that's where the magic happens, and of course, I
02:15am also trying to learn on the job and do it the best I can.
02:25So, getting this role was simple, the basic, go to Mukesh sir, Mukesh Chhabra sir was casting
02:30for this film, so I did about 2 or 3 rounds, I had seen the original film, so they had
02:34told me that this is a remake of Love Today, this is the character, so I was like, this
02:38has to be done, we did 2 or 3 rounds, the casting team was very sweet, so I didn't feel
02:43like an audition, very honestly, it was just like workshopping, we did 3 or 4 rounds, if
02:50I am not wrong, and every time we did different versions of the same scene, once we did another
02:54scene, just because there was rail and dancing, which is another forte of mine, I have not
02:59been dancing since childhood, so, but on set, the funniest thing, because, see this is my
03:04first film, I went like Anthro Cutlet, and my rehearsal was with Khushi Kapoor and Junaid
03:10Khan, and Advaith sir was also there, we went and there was reading, so you jam on reading,
03:16you do the scene, with the other actor, it was a long scene, if you will have watched
03:19the film, where Karan's character, my character is asking her out, and Junaid is reading the
03:24chat, so Junaid was sitting here, Khushi was somewhere here, Advaith was somewhere here,
03:28I told Advaith, give me a minute, can I not read, can I just perform the scene, so he
03:33is like lines, so I was like, I have done it, I have done everything, please let me
03:37just perform it, and they had never, this was the first time I was meeting Khushi, in
03:42the capacity of an actor, so I, in that scene, have very dramatically, DOP was sitting there,
03:48I knew, so I was like, let's make a scene, I have gone down, taken a rose out, gone on
03:53my knees, done the entire scene, and suddenly everyone started laughing, and I was like,
03:57what is he doing, because he came for reading, but yeah, and it was just then that I realised
04:02that I have not done much, because Khushi was looking strangely, Advaith was looking
04:05strangely, Junaid was looking strangely, that what is happening, but it was a very
04:09good atmosphere, because later everyone just, that I think broke the ice, so that was one
04:14fun BTS moment, which I had, others are also there, but it was a very long story, different
04:19things happened, so yeah, this one was a great moment, because, it was really funny to see,
04:27because Rajesh sir and DOP came here, and then everyone started, we did the scene like
04:312 or 3 times, then I did it very dramatically, very weirdly, so I think Khushi was a bit
04:35creeped out, and so was Advaith, that what is he doing, but finally we found the story
04:40of the character, and we came down to one conclusion, that okay, this is the character,
04:45because the character itself is creepy, Karan is not a good guy, my friends, he is not a
04:48good person, so don't be inspired to be worse than him.
04:56I will get a little sentimental about Aamir sir, because he has been my screen idol, honestly,
05:01for many years, so I have met him before, but in this film's capacity, he had seen a
05:06rough cut, and if you have seen my part in the film, it is not that long, but, so my
05:11biggest worry was that, the film will come, the first film will come, how much will people
05:16notice my part, people will notice, you are supposed to hate the character, will they
05:19hate the character, will they notice everything, Advaith texted me after the rough cut, that
05:25Aamir sir has watched the film, and he has loved your performance, so I thought he is
05:28going to make me happy, because it is my first film, two weeks later, I happened to meet
05:32Aamir sir, and usually we used to just say hi, hello, because he knows me by face, and
05:37I of course know him, so he has come, and he has given me a tight hug, and he said, what
05:42work have you done, and I was like, sir, are you seriously saying this, he said, no, no,
05:47you have really done well, and he spoke about a few scenes, he mentioned a few things I
05:52did as an actor, which is very dear to me, that he noticed, and he is honestly one of
05:56my screen idols, so when I got his validation as an actor, and it is my first film, my first
06:01performance in the public domain, for me it was the biggest film, biggest film, that Aamir
06:06Khan liked my work, and it is my dream, manifesting this on camera, very boldly, that I get to
06:11work with him soon, in his production house, and with him as an actor, my career is done,
06:17I am done, Aamir Khan sir is my biggest, biggest, biggest, most favourite star.
06:27I can't say it is a charm, it is fun to watch it in the theatre, but definitely, it is sad
06:34but it is true that people have the option of waiting a month and watching it at home,
06:37so that is a big factor, as to why people don't go to the theatres anymore, so it is there,
06:42it is not a charm, films hit as much, the amount of crying that you do in the community
06:47when you watch a film, and you laugh with people, that is very different, but it is true, going
06:52to a theatre is expensive now, it is tougher now, it is not the wisest option for most
07:00people sometimes, because of course you have to care about your bread and butter in your
07:03pocket, and it has become an expensive affair, and of course you have OTT, which is brilliant,
07:08I think, so it is there, it is not a charm, I am going to answer that, but there is an
07:13option, so people want to wait, which is a great thing for the consumer, but not the
07:18best thing for people putting it in a theatre.
07:21Honestly, the directors who are at the top of my hat, Zoya Akhtar, Imtiaz Ali, Vikram
07:32Sir, Vikram Aditya Motwani, I have Aditya Chopra as a director, that's a dream, he is
07:37too rare, so if he is there, he is really mental, Shakunt Batra, love, love his work,
07:44Advait, 10,000 times again, and if Aamir Sir directs again, then that will be mind-blowing,
07:53him, and the list will go on, Vasant Bala, Vasant Bala is one of my favourite, again,
07:59his body of work, whatever I have seen, even his commercials, I love them, love them, and
08:05there are a lot, Vinil Mathew, Haseen Dilruba, Anurag Sir, Anurag Kashyap, Anurag Basu,
08:13all of them, the names you say, but these are at the top of my head right now, and Arjun
08:19Varian Singh, he is a new age, young director, dream, dream, all of these are my dream, and
08:25it will happen, Inshallah.
08:26Who would you go on a dinner date with?
08:32I would go with, who would I go on a dinner date with?
08:41I think I would like to go with, Shalvari Vaughan, she is a brilliant actor, of course
08:49she is a very pretty girl, but brilliant actor, if you see her body of work also, I feel she
08:56has something she is doing, which is very, very, very serious as an actor, if you watch
09:01her in Maharaj, if you watch her in, the first project she did, Forgotten Army, if you watch
09:06her in Patti Bhakti, she is brilliant, of course she is very brilliant, so yeah.
09:10Who would you go on a dinner date with?
09:15See, I will get abused, I am going to talk about my first film and a legend, but Gabbar
09:19Singh, no one has ever written a character like Gabbar Singh, so if I get a chance to
09:25write a character like Gabbar Singh, or Mogambo, these are the full on, I feel genuinely well
09:30fleshed out, well written, of course his performance tone was different, but yeah, if I get a
09:36chance to do something like this, life would be complete with him.
