00:02This is what the Philippine Navy assured the public after the incident of a Russian submarine attack

00:10inside the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Philippines.

00:13According to Philippine Navy Rear Admiral Roy Vincent Trinidad, a spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea,

00:20it is normal for sea vehicles to pass through the EEZ

00:24because the country is surrounded by nautical highways and international routes,

00:30or routes that are passed by ships, according to Trinidad,

00:34under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

00:38Sea vehicles no longer need to say goodbye,

00:42but it should respond to the radio challenge as a courtesy to the country.

00:49Trinidad explained that there are many reasons why it might pass through the EEZ.

00:57It could be that they want to send a message to show their presence,

01:01to carry air for the charging of diesel-electric batteries, refueling, or to make a complaint.

01:09When we first reacted, we were concerned, we were surprised.

01:13But eventually, when it responded, it should not be a concern to our countrymen.
