The final week of spring has delivered heatwaves and heavy rain across the parts of the country. Angus Hines from the bureau of meteorology says the rainfall is set to persist for a couple of days.

00:00Over the past 24 hours we've seen this ginormous band of tropical moisture affecting eastern
00:07Australia, stretching all the way really from Townsville down to Tasmania.
00:11It's impacting many parts of the country, particularly those eastern centres along the
00:15east coast.
00:16That is giving us lots of rainfall around Townsville at the moment with severe thunderstorms
00:21and a severe thunderstorm warning in place for parts of that Townsville and central coast
00:25of Queensland as well as parts of the northern highlands of Queensland as well.
00:31Further south we are seeing widespread rain across New South Wales this morning with a
00:35severe thunderstorm warning in place for the central and northern Tablelands as well as
00:38the central western slopes and plains.
00:41We are seeing a wet day across Victoria and Tasmania is lining up to see some really significant
00:45rain in the next 24 to 36 hours.
00:48A severe thunderstorm warning is in place for northern and eastern Tasmania with the
00:52bulk of their wet weather expected tonight, overnight and tomorrow morning.
