Insieme per porre fine all’epidemia”.

00:00According to the Institute Superior of Health, there are more than 2,000 new HIV-infection diagnoses that interest the Italian population every year.
00:13Yet only 16% of Italians claim to be very informed on the subject.
00:19Italians are still confused about the transmission modes of the virus and 63% of them feel at no risk of contracting HIV.
00:28These are just some of the data from a demoscopic survey conducted by Astra Research for Gilead Science on a sample of over 1,500 people between the ages of 18 and 70.
00:40Data reported in the white book HIV. The words to go back to talk about it.
00:46Presented in Rome on the occasion of the HIV event from the words to the actions together to end the epidemic.
00:53There is a great need to increase prevention, to adopt new tools because one of the key points of the fight against HIV is an indispensable tool to reach the zero of which we speak of the 2030 of new diagnoses.
01:08In many European countries there is this stigma on the part of health workers, workers who still assist people.
01:16I think this is a great battle because the stigma keeps people away from the test, keeps people away from places of care.
01:22From the survey also emerges little information on the prevention strategies and pre-exposure profiles, the so-called PREP, known only by 6% and 7% of the interviewees and services that can be found in the checkpoints,
01:37territorial prisons of which 56% and 5% of Italians do not know the existence.
01:43The checkpoints, working with the communities because they are full of people who belong directly to these communities, allow an equal approach that brings people closer,
01:54breaks down barriers and therefore allows to do a very important job just to go and serve these communities and try to contribute to the fight against HIV and transmissible diseases.
02:09Four, the key words of the white book HIV, the words to go back to talk about it, prevention, stigma, checkpoint and quality of life.
02:17Certainly, together with all the actors, companies, institutions, researchers, the medical community, the community, we must continue to make the difference,
02:31both on the part of diagnosis, on the part of prevention, on the treatment, but also we have seen today there is a lot of ignorance.
02:42At the event organized in Rome, doctors, associations and institutions took part to redefine the agenda of priorities.
02:49What we are asked for is a new law that innovates the 135 of 90 and that gives the country new tools to fight HIV, AIDS, HPV and sexually transmitted diseases.
