00:00A Filipino-made resuscitator that will be used as a temporary breathing assistance.

00:05It is expected that many of our countrymen will benefit from this,

00:08not only because it is cheaper, but also because it is of high quality.

00:12Ron Dagusan has the details.

00:17In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic,

00:20the need for ventilators in the country has increased.

00:23Because of this, the Philippine-made resuscitator, N-May,

00:27was made by researchers from the Technological Institute of the Philippines.

00:31N-May is a type of respirator that means to prolong or extend life.

00:36N-May is intended to be used as a temporary breathing assistance

00:40for patients who are being transported to the hospital or in line

00:44to use the ICU ventilator.

00:46And because it is smaller, it can be brought to ambulances.

00:50And it is cheaper because it is locally made.

00:52We want to provide a device

00:56that can support, like a ventilator,

00:59that can be afforded by our low-level hospitals.

01:03Especially for those in the provinces.

01:07For them to be able to use devices like this,

01:10they need to move or travel to bigger cities.

01:14Through this, more people will be able to afford and benefit from this.

01:19Supported by the DOST, the project is said to be from the fund

01:22that will provide expertise and a way for more people to benefit from this.

01:26A licensing agreement was made for manufacturing and design optimization

01:31and distribution and sales

01:33to make it accessible to more people

01:35to be commercialized and used by ambulances, hospitals, and the public.

01:40I think it would save lives.

01:42Of course, it would help bolster our inventory

01:46that before the pandemic was suffering.

01:49DOH actually stated that even way before the pandemic,

01:53we need to be short on supplies.

01:56So, Singlevent and of course other medical devices being out there in the market

02:02would make us or help us become more prepared.

02:05This has already passed various certifications,

02:08just like in the Lung Center of the Philippines.

02:10The Food and Drug Administration will follow this.

02:12This is to make sure that it is effective,

02:15safe to use, and in line with the standards.

02:18This just shows that we can bring the developed technologies of our researchers

02:24to the market of commercialization.

02:27That's why the Filipinos always say that we are weak

02:30when it comes to bringing the products of our researchers to the market.

02:35This shows that there are people who trust us.

02:38There are people who recognize our capabilities.

02:41The DOST calls on the public to trust the local researchers, scientists, and engineers

02:47because they have the ability, along with the support of the government,

02:51to benefit the Filipinos.
