What exactly happened with Montgomery? Did he possibly want out? Thoughts on how quickly Monty found a new job with St. Louis?

00:00I don't know by the way the back and forth earlier and throughout the show
00:04I guess on Jim Montgomery and whether he forced his way out of here is of interest to me because I
00:10Keep getting text messages on the Subaru of New England text line suggesting that it is outrageous
00:17to think that anything occurred other than Jim Montgomery being fired by the Bruins and then him just
00:24Luckily landing himself a a new job four days later, right?
00:29So but isn't the onus on the organization that controls his fate?
00:32Like if you own the Bruins or run the Bruins and you're about to fire a coach or release a player
00:39Wouldn't it be on you to see before what you anticipate the market would be so that you're not
00:45Allowing him to go somewhere without any sort of compensation like yeah, they fired him
00:50I agree
00:51I mean
00:51You should never have a coach enter the walk here
00:54Which is why the Patriots decided to move on from Bill because instead of extending him
00:59They didn't want him to enter a year as a lame-duck and I don't think Bill would have done it rightfully
01:03So so why the Red Sox got the deal done with Alex Cora at the midway point, you know
01:07Even though hey, they had decided they weren't going to talk about it till the end
01:11They write that and so I especially when you think about the tumultuous offseason with the goalie, you know
01:17the the public negotiations that went bad with cam like
01:21The whole thing was a recipe for disaster and clearly Sweeney didn't want him long-term and the players
01:27Had a million opportunities Greg
01:29Well, I wonder if the Swayman thing influenced Jim Montgomery like I wonder if he sat there
01:35He had an offer in front of him from them
01:38Which was maybe it was a reasonable offer and then he looked at the fact that they weren't gonna cough up the extra
01:45You know, whatever if you you know rich
01:47I think rich scoops keep it said at one point
01:50They were a couple million dollars apart Bruins were offering six and a half and they ended up at eight and a half
01:56So they were to maybe he looked at and said I'm not gonna deal with this
01:59every single time there's
02:02Somebody who wants your free agent or somebody who could be a free agent and or somebody wants to get extended
02:08I'm not gonna deal with it every single time where they're low-balling it. I mean, do you think that's more likely or do you think that?
02:16He didn't like
02:19Being under the management and the way that they were making him run things with
02:25He wasn't able to put his coaches in place
02:27He had clearly it seemed like he wanted to be around hockey people that talked about certain things when it came to hockey
02:33He wanted to be able to pick his staff. Well, I mean, I guess if you believe that
02:39He got himself out of here. Like if that was his intention, right?
02:44Then there and you want to pick what he didn't like. Mm-hmm
02:48It was either that that it was either Cam Neely and Don Sweeney and the way they managed him
02:54Mm-hmm, or it was the players. I
02:58Would think that it was more though. Do you think if a guy had taken a team?
03:06to the
03:07playoffs and in that season set the
03:11Record for wins and then the next year took them to the playoffs again
03:17didn't set the record for wins, but another really good season and
03:22Unfortunately, they lost in the playoffs both of his his two years being here then all of a sudden
03:29It's kind of the same players
03:32You think it's more of the players or he doesn't like the way he's being
03:38Managed especially putting out a very very good product
03:42Granted might be the regular season, but maybe what they're saying to him after postseason losses
03:49management is
03:50Rubbing him the wrong way where he's like, I want out of this place
03:54I think after the postseason if management is doing that I'm with Curtis during the offseason. He would say okay then release me
04:01I I want to go to a different team
04:03Why go in and play and be 20 games in and then and then have it all happen the way that it is on the contract
04:10Maybe he feels like management will change the way they're doing things because he is a good coach
04:17But then but then you can't
04:19Okay, so why don't fire a coach?
04:21But hold on then you don't agree with what Greg just brought up that maybe he didn't like the fact that maybe year after year
04:26He was gonna have to deal with them low-balling free agents because if he doesn't believe that they're gonna change for something like that
04:32But he doesn't believe that they're gonna change when it comes to him, but they just gave pasta
04:3611 million dollars and McAvoy nine million dollars and then they gave
04:41Zadoroff and Linholm a ton of money so they weren't low balling. They were low with sway men one guy
04:47I would just say guys. I think that
04:50Montgomery
04:51Rightfully feels his team's overachieved. Thanks in part to him in the regular season
04:58He balanced a very difficult goalie tandem, yeah
05:03Successfully. Mm-hmm playoffs exactly because the playoffs you don't use to but I think that Montgomery set back this offseason was like
05:11We had the best season in the history of hockey
05:13We advance around we got further than we did the year before and you're having me beg for my supper, right?
05:20I I think he was I think both sides. I don't think that Sweeney and Neely appreciated
05:26What Monty did during the regular season enough and I think Monty took it personally and clearly cam shows that he can get personal
05:34When it comes to negotiating contra and what it's showing me or maybe what it could have some
05:41Stanky residue out there. I don't know if it does
05:45similar to a
05:48craft
05:50Male situation and front office situation
05:54Where Monty wants to do things
05:58What happened? Oh, we just said we lost a little bit of the
06:01The pine the pine needle. What do they call those the bows? Oh, I felt out
06:07Garland the garland. Thank you Jackson. Welcome the job. Yeah, the garland fell
06:11Yeah, the garland goes flaccid during hockey time
06:13But but but Greg I think maybe they were trying to micromanage
06:18the way
06:20He coached maybe he wanted to go with one goalie, but they said well goalie
06:25Bob says we should rotate goalies or or maybe it was a vice versa
06:30I'm just saying maybe he felt like he couldn't do it the way he wanted to do it because they were always
06:38Inserting themselves whether it's through coaches that were already there when it came to power play and PK that you brought up
06:44I mean, it's clear. I think when you and we we heard him during they said it he has an affinity for st
06:50Louis, it's the wife's hometown
06:53It's they gave him a second chance
06:58Hey, you can sell that to somebody else, okay, that doesn't matter. No, it's all about the money. Oh, it's all about the power
07:05Maybe they say hey you come here. You can hire the guys that you want
07:09You can hire the coaches that you want
07:10You can run it the way you want to run the on I stuff not that he wanted to be involved on who they were gonna
07:16You know sign and free agents, but it doesn't like smell funny to you that a coach gets fired
07:24And then a couple days later
07:26another team fires their coach and the coach that they just got fired they were in the playoff hunt and
07:33The other team wasn't too far away from the playoffs
07:35And then that new team hires him a few days after they fired the other call all this within a week and a half
07:42yeah, it is of interest I think but
07:46Water under the bridge. We'll never know you got Joe Sacco and he has these guys on an absolute heater
07:52All right, two-game heater and Jake to brusque back tonight. So
07:56We'll see if they can make it three and Oh under their new head coach
