Time to increase allowances for firefighters, say lawmakers

Lawmakers are calling for the allowance for firefighters to be increased, the Dewan Rakyat heard on Tuesday (Nov 26). 00:00I am aware of a recent news report about a complaint from a bomb squad

00:05following the announcement of a bomb incentive payment

00:07which is inconsistent with their responsibilities and risks

00:12They not only have to put out the fire, but also have to prepare 24 hours

00:16for emergency work and rescue missions that are often highly risky

00:22In fact, if we look at so far, the distance between the two police officers

00:26and the low-ranking bomb, for example,

00:28is up to RM972 per year

00:32I would like to ask the Ministry of Justice to reconsider the salary and allowance

00:37so that they comply with their duties and in line with the other rescue and rescue members

00:43I highly appreciate the service and energy shared by the bomb squad members in Malaysia

00:49as stated by the Honourable Minister

00:53Although the government has implemented the SSPA

00:56However, there are still special allowances for bomb members

01:00that have not been improved for so long

01:03Allowance payments such as intensive bomb payments at RM110

01:09for 12 hours is no longer relevant and is increased in accordance with the current situation

01:14Allowance for bomb maintenance at RM200

01:17as well as service operation allowances at RM30

01:21for each operation is no longer in accordance with the risk

01:27In addition, I have also understood that

01:32such allowances as a request for a leave of absence to members who have been on duty for more than 12 hours

01:39as well as a leave of absence to staff are no longer given to bomb members

01:43Therefore, it is unreasonable to consider that they need to rest

01:49even though it is reasonable to replace them

01:52in order to ensure that they are in an optimal condition to perform their duties

01:57The government needs efficient and effective spending

02:01but do not let the welfare of our rescue members be sacrificed

02:05I would like to suggest to the government

02:08so that the welfare and allowance of these bomb members can be improved

02:12in line with the tasks and risks they face every time they are on duty
