Bob Geldof has reminisced on 40 years of the iconic song 'Do They Know It's Christmas' following the release of Band Aid 40. Speaking to ITV News, the singer said: "It's so beautiful a track - it was a scratch song that we came up with that would last a couple of weeks and we'd make some money and give it to Oxfam. I saw an American newspaper previewing this a couple of weeks ago calling it the most impactful song in rock and roll." Report by Kennedyl. 00:00I mean Trevor Horn is, I personally think this is the apex of a long career. I'm sure he thinks that.
00:07So I said, 40th anniversary coming up, lots of documentaries happening, re-screening the
00:14concerts, all that stuff, how do we kick it off? And I just said, well, we're not going to get this
00:18new crop of people in, so just put the three official versions together. And I went to Midge
00:25and I said, do you want to have a go? He said, no. I said, I don't even know where the tapes are.
00:29So I then went to Trevor and he said, well, he said, they're all singing the same bloody lines.
00:33What do I do with this? You just repeat the lines. Anyway, it's so beautiful, a track. It was
00:43a scratch song that we came up with that would last a couple of weeks and we'd make some money,
00:48we'd give it to Oxfam or something and that'd be our thing. And it's developed into this
00:54very powerful, I saw an American newspaper previewing this two weeks ago and said probably
01:01the most impactful song in the history of rock and roll. Well, you know, Midge and I didn't,
01:06that isn't what we set out to do. But I think Trevor has made the Ur version of this song. I
01:14just can't imagine where you could possibly go with it. It's so beautiful. I mean, it really is
01:19nothing to do with us, just those voices and the house band. I mean, you know, Paul McCartney,
01:26bass, Sting bass, Roger Taylor, Phil Collins, Danny Coffey, drums, Tom York, keyboards,
01:32Johnny Greenwood, Midger, Gary Kemp, Paul Weller guitar. And you kind of go, wow.
