00:00The 2024 CMAs were awash in terrible fashion choices. No, not you, Chase Stokes. For every
00:06well-dressed celeb, there were dozens who took a sharp left turn and fell off the fashion
00:10horse.
00:12We don't doubt that Billy Bob Thornton's closet is filled with eclectic and unique styles,
00:16but for his CMAs outfit, it looked like he closed his eyes and started grabbing things
00:20at random. The choice to layer the brightly colored open button-down between a black T-shirt
00:25and jacket got the outfit off to a messy start. Pairing it with his cockeyed hat and
00:29layers of jewelry just caused the whole look to feel haphazard and all over the place.
00:34What four words would we use to describe it? We'll let Thornton answer that.
00:38"...happiness, sadness, danger, humor."
00:42Everyone knows Frank Rea's song, "'Country'd Look Good On You," but this country outfit
00:45looks like it came from a little too much of somebody else's whiskey. Ultimately, pulling
00:50off an outfit made entirely of red sequins just isn't an easy task. In Rea's case, however,
00:55this red sequin outfit was a suit, and it was paired with a bolo tie and cowboy hat.
01:00With all those elements together, he looked a little bit too much like a cartoon cowboy
01:05villain. Jokes aside, though, Rea gets double points handed back to him for his philosophy
01:09about the whole thing. Wear what you like.
01:12Look, whatever you want to do. Go to the thrift store, or go to Goodwill, or go to Shein,
01:16or go to some fancy place, whatever, man. Just feel good in what you're wearing.
01:20Mitchell Tenpenny and Meghan Patrick are the quintessential country music couple. On the
01:23CMA Awards red carpet, however, they looked like caricatures of themselves. Alone, these
01:28outfits would have still been flops, but when paired together, they looked even worse. Tenpenny's
01:33green suit with racing flames probably shouldn't have been paired with so many country accessories,
01:38and Patrick's entire look felt like it was from the cowgirl section at Spirit Halloween.
01:44Country music has its own unique style, no doubt about that, but Ian Munsic took the
01:48impulse to represent way too far. Munsic put all the details into his ensemble and
01:53came out looking like a window mannequin, showcasing a bit of everything in the store.
01:57And then I got the Wrangler jeans, and my favorite part of the whole ensemble is the
02:02cowboy boot with the Wyoming flag on it.
02:05The jeans and denim shirt are ever so slightly different, the belt and leather vest feel
02:10like they belong in two different outfits, and the neon green accents look like he got
02:14splashed with something that'll turn him into a ninja turtle in about a week. Still,
02:18we gotta love that he seemed to know exactly what he was doing when he put it all on. Self-awareness
02:23never goes out of style.
02:25We're all for putting a fun twist on the classic suit, but a bathrobe isn't the way to do it.
02:30Daniel Sanjada's long, fuzzy, striped pea coat sure looked comfy, but it just didn't
02:35give off the right vibe. The pattern was there, but something a little sleeker would have
02:39been a better option.
02:41Brittany Boston opted for a colorful suit for the red carpet, but somehow it just doesn't
02:45work. The under-the-desk bubblegum shade of pink doesn't feel quite right, the suit seems
02:50a bit ill-fitting, and those black, closed-toed shoes clash with it all. Most importantly,
02:54though, we just don't know why she has tutus on her arms.
02:58Remember Silly Putty, the stretchy, moldable mystery goop that came in an egg? Remember
03:03the color and texture? Does this refresh your memory? While Ashley Cooke's dress itself
03:08is shapely and fit her well, the band-aid color scheme looked particularly odd with
03:12the sequin finish. A jewel tone would have made Cooke shine, and would have allowed the
03:17dress's sheen to pop. As far as hair and makeup, though, she was on point.
03:21Who started this big, feathery arm trend? Kacey Musgraves' looks rarely disappoint,
03:26but this look feels like a step in the wrong direction. On its own, her crystal-covered
03:30denim dress may have actually been a cool and unique look, but the sleeves make the
03:34dress feel utterly over-the-top. As it is, this look feels more like a costume for a
03:38performance than a red carpet look.
03:41Fans already dance along to Julie Williams' music. She doesn't need to double down and
03:45dress like a disco ball to get a dance floor moving.
03:47Who is this?
03:48So, the funny thing is, I actually have no idea.
03:51Her sparkly silver dress with long, voluminous sleeves overwhelmed the star and took the
03:55attention away from her. The worst part, however, wasn't the dress. It was how she accessorized
04:01Had she leaned into the glitz and glamour of the statement-making dress, this may have
04:05worked. The bolo tie and platform sandals, on the other hand? We didn't know whether
04:09she was headed to the Oscars, the beach, the rodeo, or all three. On the bright side, her
04:13hair looked fabulous.
04:15Amberley Brown may have matched the red carpet a little too well. The thigh-high slit combined
04:20with full sleeves and rhinestone accents would have been the perfect choice for a figure
04:24skating competition. On the red carpet, however, it felt out of place. And next to her husband,
04:30Justin, more than anything, it looked like her dress was rubbing off on his jacket.
04:34Jackson Dean clearly knew what most folks would be wearing at the CMA Awards — a suit
04:38and a cowboy hat. However, he didn't quite nail this simple outfit formula. His unbuttoned
04:43boxy jacket threw off his proportions and made him look like a kid wearing his dad's
04:47suit. And swapping a button-down for a black T-shirt managed to make this look feel even
04:52stranger.
04:53Jeff Bridges can generally do no wrong. At this year's CMAs, he embraced his love of
04:57music as a presenter. We just wish he also embraced the advice of a stylist. His brocade
05:03jacket was actually a nice choice to spice up a normal suit. The problem was his choice
05:07to wear it open and pair it with the big belt buckle. Since this jacket was a statement
05:12by itself, it would have looked better on its own. Hopefully, he doesn't mind all the
05:16harsh words.
05:17No, I do mind. The dude minds.
05:21Angie Kay's outfit started off with some clashing elements and never looked back. On top of
05:25the cream-colored top half tucked into the white pants and a cowboy hat that didn't quite
05:29match either of those, she piled on tons of country-inspired accessories. It's a get-up
05:34that would be fun to wear line dancing, but felt a little too casual and disjointed for
05:39the red carpet.
