00:00The 2024 CMA Awards nominations are out and Beyoncé was heavily snubbed.
00:08Queen Bey was completely shut out of this year's nominations,
00:11despite having one of the year's biggest country albums.
00:14Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter made history this year when it spent four weeks on top of Billboard's
00:18Top Country Albums chart, making her the first Black woman to achieve the feat.
00:25She also became the first Black woman to hit the number one spot on Billboard's
00:29Hot Country Songs chart with Texas Hold'em, which held the top position for a whopping 10 weeks.
00:34The 27-track project featuring Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Linda Martel, Miley Cyrus and
00:40Post Malone drove cultural conversations about Black artists reclaiming the genres they started,
00:46including country music. Beyoncé qualified for CMA categories like Single of the Year,
00:51Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Female Vocalist of the Year and Music Event of the Year.
00:56The CMAs are voted on by members of the Country Music Association, which includes artists,
01:01executives, songwriters and other industry professionals.
01:04The CMA snub comes eight years after controversy ensued at the 2016 CMAs,
01:09when Beyoncé surprised the audience with a performance of her country song Daddy Lessons,
01:14alongside the Chicks, which received some backlash from country music.
01:18The singer seemed to reference the CMAs when she teased Cowboy Carter in March.
01:22This album has been over five years in the making. It was born out of an experience that
01:26I had years ago where I did not feel welcomed, and it was very clear that I wasn't. But because
01:32of that experience, I did a deeper dive into the history of country music and studied our
01:36rich musical archive." By contrast, another artist who released his first country album this year,
01:41Post Malone, was welcomed with the nominations, earning four nods for I Had Some Help,
01:46his hit number one featuring Morgan Wallen. Meanwhile, Wallen himself earned seven nods.
