00:00We have new news, Vice President Sara Duterte visited her Chief of Staff, Atty. Zuleika Lopez.
00:07Lopez was detained in the House Detention Center after the camera was sighted in contempt this Wednesday
00:12due to undue interference or excessive attention to the camera's work.
00:17House Secretary General Reginald Velasco said that the vice president arrived at around 8 p.m.
00:23and that the vice president was still in the room until this morning.
00:27There are no details as to what was discussed by the vice president and his chief of staff.
00:32Lopez was in contempt after the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability heard
00:38that he wrote to the Commission on Audit not to give the confidential report of the OVP to the camera
00:45because the investigation is not yet complete.
00:48He explained that he did not intend to undermine the power of the Congress.
00:53Lopez asked the Office of the Vice President not to issue a statement regarding his detention under the national law.
01:01House Speaker Martin Romualde challenged Vice President Sara Duterte to confront the committee of the camera
01:07and explain about the use of confidential funds in her office.
01:13She should be the one to report, to give an oath, to give a statement and to explain
01:20because all of her officials, she's the only one who knows what's going on with the funds.
01:28She should be the one to explain and not give it to the officials of the OVP or the deputy.
01:37Vice President Duterte has yet to give a statement.
01:40Duterte did not return to the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability last Wednesday.
01:47He admitted that he was just wasting his time because he was not asked.
01:52Duterte also denied that there was nothing wrong with the use of confidential funds.
01:57In spite of that, the biggest challenge for Vice President Duterte is the unity of her people
02:03where she is the one who is holding her opponents in politics.
02:10As I said, I am a politician.
02:14Politicians should have a name because there's a race, right?
02:21For the opponents to have an advantage, they should have some competence in politics.
02:32The house of the grandparents in Noveliches, Quezon City is on fire.
02:35According to their relatives, they were not able to leave the house.
02:38We brought to you the news of Bea Pinla.
02:41Please stop the fire.
02:46Please stop the fire.
02:50The family of the grandparents, Erning and Azerlyn,
02:54was devastated when their house was set on fire in Barangay Gulod, Noveliches, Quezon City last night.
03:01Until their last moments, the grandparents tried to extinguish the fire in their house.
03:08Our house was on fire.
03:10We even poured water on it.
03:13That's why the fire didn't go out.
03:20It hurts.
03:24Suddenly, when they were gone,
03:26I will show you my dream so that I can say goodbye.
03:32I really can't.
03:33I really can't.
03:34Everything is happening in my mind right now.
03:39According to the Bureau of Fire Protection,
03:42about ten houses were engulfed by the fire that broke out at 5 p.m. yesterday.
03:47Fifteen families were affected.
03:50According to the people of Barangay, the fire spread quickly to the neighboring houses.
03:55It's all raw materials, like plywood.
03:59It's really sticky.
04:01Some of the affected families were evacuated to a nearby school.
04:06Actually, there are only three families there.
04:09The others went to their relatives.
04:11One of the affected families, Nanay Enriquita,
04:14was the first to think of saving her son, PWD, or person with disability,
04:18and her husband, a senior citizen.
04:20Their house was set on fire and they have no other way to continue.
04:25I hope they can help us.
04:28It's really hard for us to live here.
04:30We don't have anything.
04:32That's what I'm worried about.
04:34We don't have a house.
04:36The fire is still being investigated.
04:38Bea Pinlap reported for GMA Integrated News.
04:42The year 2024 is not yet over.
04:45The number of incidents of fire has already exceeded the number of this year, 2023.
04:50From January 1 to 8 this morning,
04:53there were 16,836 fires in the country.
04:57That's more than the 16,433 reported last year.
05:02In fact, this is the most reported since 2019
05:06when there were more than 18,000 fire incidents across the country.
05:11And every March, when it's Fire Prevention Month,
05:13this happens more often.
05:16Out of the number of incidents of fire this year,
05:18it's worth more than 9.6 billion pesos.
05:23Almost 300 people were killed,
05:24while more than 1,300 were injured.
05:28To avoid fire,
05:29Bureau of Fire Protection reminds
05:31to avoid overloading the outlets
05:33or those that are connected to the outlets.
05:36Turn off and remove the appliances
05:38as well as the LPG tanks when not in use.
05:41Do not leave the kitchen when cooking.
05:44Keep away from children.
05:46Put flammable items in a high and secluded place.
05:50If there's a fire,
05:51make sure to put out the fire properly
05:54and throw it in the right place.
05:56Also, make sure that your place is clean.
