00:00But reports from Conor Hughes, who works for SNY covering the Jets and the Giants,
00:06say that the Jets have fired Joe Douglas, the general manager,
00:13six weeks before his contract is set to expire.
00:18Of course, it has been a disastrous and tumultuous season for the Jets.
00:23First, the firing of Robert Sala, now over a month ago,
00:27had coached out general manager to follow.
00:30Joe Douglas has been fired.
00:33What's your immediate reaction?
00:35Wow.
00:36You know, anytime you hear anyone being fired, it's always like,
00:40wow, this one not necessarily out of the blue.
00:43It's part of maybe the house cleaning the Jets are going to do.
00:46It's got all the earmarks, Ben, of Douglas going to the Jets saying,
00:51listen, you know what, holidays are coming up.
00:53I don't want this to be a distraction.
00:55What are we doing from here on forward?
00:57You know, am I going to be back next season?
00:59I don't want to start all my draft processes.
01:01And the Jets may be saying, well, we're not really sure.
01:04I got to know.
01:05We're not really sure.
01:06I got to know.
01:07Okay, you're fired.
01:09If you really need to know, then you're fired.
01:11That's what it kind of sounds like to me from the outside looking in.
01:15Otherwise, why would you do it really now?
01:17There'd be no reason to do it now.
01:18But this, you know, like I said,
01:19there are things that GMs need to do and get the team prepared
01:22and all the scouting and all that other stuff.
01:24And if he's a lame-duck GM, I can see the Jets just say,
01:27all right, then we're showing you the door.
01:29So where does that leave Ulbricht, the interim head coach?
01:33Where does that leave Aaron Rodgers?
01:35Is the whole plan being blown up in smoke now?
01:38Are they going to tear the whole thing down?
01:40Wow.
01:41Okay.
01:42Here we go.
01:43First domino.
01:44All by the Jets.
01:45Yeah.
01:46You know, Scott,
01:47it already was going to be an off season of a lot of turmoil and change
01:50for the New York Jets.
01:52To your point,
01:53not entirely sure why you fire a general manager in the middle of a season,
01:57except to just say, Hey,
01:59we're going to get ready to go for next year already with the Jets being
02:03three and eight.
02:05I have no idea the role that Aaron Rodgers played in this.
02:08If any,
02:09what role Aaron Rodgers will play in shaping the future of the New York
02:13Jets franchise beyond this season.
02:15If Aaron Rodgers will be a member of this organization beyond the next few
02:20weeks as well, Scott,
02:22it would say to me, right?
02:23Take Aaron Rodgers out of the equation,
02:25but the New York Jets are completely turning this thing down to build it all
02:30the way back up.
02:31And in my mind,
02:32that would mean a completely new quarterback and rebuild moving forward.
02:37They are going to look to the NFL draft to maybe get that guy right now with
02:41one of a top five or top 10 picks to have,
02:44to have a new GM and a head coach in place to make that crucial selection.
02:49That's what it says to me,
02:50but we'll see about what the rest of this season and off season holds in
02:54store for the New York Jets.
02:56Yeah. I mean, how could you, you know, just from a betting standpoint,
02:59how in the world could you put American money on the Jets at this point?
03:02Right. You got a GM that's out the door now.
03:04So who's really running the show?
03:06You got a head coach who know he has to know he's going to be fired right at
03:09the end of the year.
03:10You got a quarterback at this point, I would say is not coming back.
03:13I don't think Rogers played a role in this at all, you know,
03:16but really the question I would have is you've been,
03:19there's like certain times in a year and a season that if you wanted to fire a
03:24guy, you hop on it. Right.
03:26Jets with Robert Sala is a good example. Right. You know, if you like the guy,
03:30you give the guy, you know, certainly more than a month into the season,
03:33but if you're inkling to fire someone, you hop on that opportunity.
03:37So I think the Jets, you know,
03:39must've been looking to fire Joe Douglas because I know it's going to sound
03:44crazy.
03:45It sounds like I'm defending him and I guess I am,
03:47but do you blame him for this mess?
03:48I mean, ultimately they brought in Rogers last year.
03:51He was supposed to be the guy last year,
03:53but he blows out as Achilles and now he's one year older and a year wounded
03:57and is clearly not the quarterback anymore.
04:00He really should seriously consider retiring.
04:02Do you blame that on Joe Douglas?
04:04I mean, if you like Joe Douglas, then you say, listen, Joe, you know what?
04:08We're all in on him.
04:09We were, we're all in on this whole kit and caboodle with Aaron Rogers.
04:12It didn't work out, but I like you.
04:14I believe in you and I'm going to let you draft another quarterback and we'll
04:18start the whole process all over again.
04:20But if you don't like Douglas, then I have my reason to fire him.
04:24And the Jets really have made a decision that they don't like Douglas and found
04:28the reason and hopped on it.
