00:00And in Mexico, an important photographic exhibition
00:02highlighting the presence of women
00:03in contemporary literature is being presented
00:05at the iconic College of San Ildefonso.
00:08Details with our correspondent, Antonio Aranda.
00:12The majestic College of San Ildefonso was the venue
00:15for the exhibition, Women of Letters,
00:17portraits by Berry Dominguez,
00:19which brings together 159 photographs
00:22that celebrate the legacy of various Mexican women writers.
00:26My interest in literature has led me to create this archive,
00:32which I have been doing for more than 30 years,
00:38and now we are in a historic moment with a woman president.
00:42The idea is for people to get to know more about it.
00:53The photographic exhibition seeks to connect
00:56emerging female authors with iconic figures
00:58of the 20th century, says the exhibition's author.
01:04One of the objectives I had from the beginning of this project
01:07was to make this exhibition for people to know
01:10the new generations of women writers
01:13and look for those who are not so well known.
01:21And one of the successes is that I wanted to intertwine
01:25in alphabetical order the consecrated and already known
01:28with the not so well known so that they come together
01:31with each other through my portraits in this exhibition
01:34that is a tribute.
01:41Showcasing the talent of women in Mexican literature
01:44is important in order to move away
01:46from the hegemonic male vision of literature.
01:51There is a great lineage of women writers in our country
01:57and it is very exciting to see the faces of all of them
02:01in the atmosphere that the photographer created
02:04with each one of these women in this exhibition.
02:10Today, women have more opportunities
02:12to disseminate their work and stand out.
02:16I think it is important that nowadays
02:18there are spaces like this, like museums where anyone can enter
02:25and know that women artists are producing work
02:27and that they have been producing not just recently
02:30but for many years.
02:34This exhibition brings together portraits
02:36of women who were born in the 20th century.
02:43The exhibition Women of Letters also commemorates
02:46the 50th anniversary of the death of the Mexican writer
02:49and diplomat Rosario Castellanos.
02:53The exhibition of the photographer Barry Dominguez
02:56invites to know the work of 159 women writers who
02:59have forged the literature of the 20th century
03:01in Mexico and Latin America.
