00:00Do you think Vegas is better than Dallas these days?
00:03I mean, their record says they are, their points.
00:061,000%.
00:08I will just add to the equation too,
00:09like Dallas is your prototypical team
00:11that's been there in the Stanley Cup playoffs
00:13and can't push through.
00:14And there's a variety of different examples,
00:16whether it's Edmonton, whether it's Vegas,
00:18whether it's others where you're knocking on that door,
00:20but you can't push through.
00:21So I think there's still a bit of hope.
00:23They got the goaltending, they got the backend.
00:26Some of their youngsters have really struggled
00:27to start this season,
00:28but I think it's hard to dispute that
00:31just because Vegas won a Stanley Cup, right?
00:34I mean, they're right there, got the job done.
00:36And year after year,
00:37they've been pretty consistent in the regular season.
00:39There's just a lot of gamers on that roster.
00:42So I think almost by default,
00:44because they finally pushed through and won a Stanley Cup
00:46and all those conference finals appearances,
00:48I have to go with Vegas in that debate.
00:51So Carver High, I forget what he said to me today
00:53about the Leafs.
00:54He said that they were either gutless or worthless
00:58or wussy, something along those lines.
01:04I drank for several days in Pittsburgh.
01:08I went to the Steeler game.
01:09I just said in the last hour
01:11that the Dragon was catching up to me.
01:13I was seeing double at one segment during the show today.
01:16I don't know exactly what he said to me,
01:18but you're there in Toronto.
01:20It's been so long since they've been able to finish
01:23and win something that matters like the Stanley Cup.
01:26Do you think they're spineless?
01:30No, I think there's a reason why I grew this mustache
01:33to take it back 40 years or whatever it is.
01:38It's always difficult to answer this question
01:40because they can come out and rifle off 110-point season
01:43and lose in seven games in the first round
01:45of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
01:46It's just been hard for the course.
01:48Having said that, it is a process.
01:50Craig Brube's system is a lot different
01:52than Sheldon Keefe.
01:54Defensively speaking, they're way more in tune
01:57with what they're doing.
01:59Consistency has been an issue early on in the season,
02:01but through 19 games, they have 11 wins, six losses.
02:05Two have gone to extra time as well.
02:07So I think the body of work suggests
02:09this is a much different looking team,
02:11but I wish I could answer this question for you better,
02:14but I think until playoff time, we just won't know.
02:17Having said that, I do like the additions.
02:19I think the crease looks really, really good right now
02:21with Anthony Stolarz and Joseph Wall.
02:24I think they made some really good improvements
02:25on the back end, whether it's Oliver Ekman-Larsen
02:27coming in, he's looked really good.
02:29Chris Tanev is a shot blocking machine.
02:31And then up front, they're being really challenged
02:33right now via injury.
02:34We found out earlier today, Austin Matthews
02:36is in Munich talking to doctors.
02:38I mean, it's never a good sign on that front,
02:40but some of the guys they've picked up
02:42have really, really helped off.
02:43But we'll see come playoff time
02:46if this is a different Leafs team,
02:48because that hasn't been the story
02:49with this squad in recent memory.
02:51They get the job done in the regular season,
02:52playoff's a different story.
