Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil has set a target to ensure that at least 50 % of the 70,000 workers in the creative industry, especially film, will contribute to the Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) in the next one or two years.
He said that there were 3,925 creative industry workers, 44% (1,709 individuals) and 56% female (2,216 individuals), who have contributed to the EPF’s i-Saraan scheme since 2010, with contributions of RM28.33 million for i-Saraan, RM1.48 million for the Special Government Incentive and RM231.94 million in the form of EPF savings.

00:00Today, I am here with my colleagues from FINAS and KWSP.
00:07I would like to thank Tan Suzuki, the KWSP CEO, and Mr. Zul, the KWSP CEO group,
00:17as well as the FINAS team, for their success in reaching an agreement between FINAS and KWSP.
00:26The purpose is to ensure that the workers in the creative industry, especially in the film industry,
00:34will be able to benefit from the programs under KWSP, which will help in terms of social security,
00:44especially for their old age.
00:47So, we will move the team under FINAS to increase the understanding among the employees,
00:56so that they will involve the workers in their programs or projects,
01:05so that there will be involvement in KWSP, and this will be the foundation, God willing,
01:12for a better future for the workers.
01:15At the same time, I mentioned in Tan Suzuki's speech earlier,
01:20that of the more than 70,000 workers in the creative industry, especially in the film industry,
01:26only about 6% are involved in KWSP.
01:31We hope that by moving FINAS, especially for those who receive creative funding from the government,
01:39more people will be involved.
01:42I will also contact the RTM.
01:45For the funding that is generated through the RTM,
01:49we will work to ensure that the workers in the projects will be involved.
01:59I will ask FINAS to contact the FDM and others to increase the understanding.
02:06From a welfare perspective, this is definitely one of the things that the unions are always fighting for.
02:15I am very happy and we hope that it will succeed.
02:19Questions?
02:24Yes, we are in the process.
02:27I received my last statement last Friday.
02:32We need to go through the regulatory impact assessment process.
02:37I have also asked FINAS to be involved with all stakeholders, especially industry players.
02:46We want to emphasize that there is a change in the audience.
02:53In the past, we used to shoot using film.
03:00Now, we don't use film at all.
03:04But there are a few things that are changing rapidly.
03:10For example, the use of streaming services.
03:16When we realize that in many countries, there is a change in content.
03:23For example, in China, there is a micro-drama that is less than one minute per episode.
03:31So, there are a lot of changes happening.
03:34FINAS also needs to move to reflect these changes
03:40and FINAS's readiness to help those involved in the industry.
03:48Did you mention that the DKK employees are required to pay their respects to the DKK?
03:59That is my wish.
04:01We need to investigate first, especially for next year,
04:05how we can apply this element in the current DKK Creative Foundation.
04:12We will investigate the best mechanism to ensure the employees' well-being.
